Traditional Day of Knowledge celebratory assembly took place at SSU Student Square on September, 1.
Students received congratulations from SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko, Saratov Region Chief Federal Inspector M.V. Aleshina, Deputy Minister of Youth Policy, Sport and Tourism A.A. Belovitskaia, St. Cyril and Methodius Church Rector Kirill Krasnoshekov, vice-rectors, faculty deans, institute directors.
Opening the assembly, Vice-rector for educational and organizational work I.G. Malinski addressed everyone: “I hope new academic year will be successful. I wish new victories and discoveries”. He welcomed first year students who start a new stage of their lives in the university.
The assembly opened with raising the flags of the Russian Federation, Saratov Region and SSU by Professor of Physics and Mathematics, Head of Office of Scientific Work A.A. Koronovski, Faculty of Nano- and Biomedical Technologies graduate student Elisey Astkhov and Faculty of Pedagogical and Special Needs Education fourth-year student Anastasia Klenkova.
Then SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko took the word. “From this day you are students of one of the best universities in the country”, he addressed first-year students. “We are proud our predecessors founded this university. Its educational and scientific schools, its labs and centers are now open for you. Our lives are connected with the University. SSU is our family”. He also mentioned SSU received congratulations from Governor V.V. Radaev, Chair of the Agrarian Issues Committee N.V. Pankov, Chair of the Committee on Labour, Social Policy and Veteran Issues O.Yu. Batalina.
Traditionally, flowers were laid to the Memorial sacred to the memory of those who died at the Great Patriotic War and to the N.G. Chernyshevskiy Monument.
Saratov Region Chief Federal Inspector, Chair of the SSU Board of Trustees M.V. Aleshina congratulated university staff and addresses first-year students. “You entered the best university that would become your alma mater. It is the flagman of Saratov science and one of the best universities in the country. Discoveries and innovations of its scientists, numerous victories, presidential grants received by its students prove it. Students years would become the most interesting stage of your life; they would lay the base for your future profession”.
On behalf of Saratov Region Duma deputies, Chair of the City Development Committee, Faculty of Law Dean, Prof. G.N. Komkov congratulated the students: “You start a new era in your life that will be full of discoveries and interesting encounters. These are the years you will always remember. And only you decide how to make them unforgettable”.
Deputy Minister of Youth Policy, Sport and Tourism A.A. Belovitskaia congratulated SSU students and teachers with the start of academic year. “We live in a wonderful time when everything changes very quickly, when education and knowledge get special value. You have entered one of the best universities in our country that has unique experience, scientific and academic potential you can use. Your hard labour and urge for knowledge will allow you to reach your goals. University is not only about lectures and seminars. Here you can develop professionally and in many other spheres”.
St. Cyril and Methodius Church Rector Kirill Krasnoshekov read the congratulatory address from Metropolitan of Saratov and Volsk Longin: “You are students of an established university; you have an opportunity to receive a desirable profession. A lot in your life depends on how seriously and responsibly you will go about your new responsibilities. One of the most useful skills is the skill to learn, to get new knowledge and experience. It gives you an opportunity to grow professionally and brings you joy, makes your life full and happy”.
Institute of Philology and Journalism Scientific Advisor V.V. Prozorov quoted N.G. Chernyshevskiy that no external force could make you an educated person. V.V. Prozorov believes it is only a matter of personal choice and will. It is better not to teach but help to learn. In his opinion, university education should help a person to learn how to work in a team but keep your personality. The most important thing for anyone then is to find their vocation.
Then according to tradition, first-year students Nadezhda Kuznetsova (Faculty of Sociology) and Nikita Kredshev (Faculty of Geology) received symbolical student ids and record books.
SSU Student Club organized a concert for students. The guests saw Lidia Yarkina and Olga Iliasova singing, «Art-mix» group doing a folk dance; Opera and Ballet Theatre soloist A.Yu. Korneev sang a “Student’s Song”.
The celebratory assembly finished with Georgy Bolotov, Chair of Undergraduate and Graduate Students Council, conducting a flash mob. Also students participated in a quiz on university history. They could also take photos with SSU banner. First-year students received the latest issue of “SGUshenka” magazine.
