Social Scientist Day is celebrated on November 14. The holiday has not yet been officially approved, but it has already become an integral part of the sociological community. Therefore, today, we have uploaded an interview with Dean of the Faculty of Sociology, SSU, Sergei Ivchenkov in the Research City section.

He commented on the history of the holiday, explaining that on November 14, 1901, in Paris, Russian scientists Maxim Kovalevsky and Yurii Gambarov opened the Russian Higher School of Social Sciences with one of the world's first departments of sociology.

‘Sociology is the science of society, studying social reality. Unlike other social sciences, its peculiarity is that its researchers have chosen new methods of studying social reality, which make their conclusions truly scientific, reliable, verifiable, and reproducible,’ he noted.

The article is dedicated to the methods of social research of public opinion and the ways of development of society, the training of sociologists, the people that have made the Faculty of Sociology, SSU, a landmark, the most popular courses today, and much more.

Answering the question about the qualities that a sociologist should possess, Sergei Ivchenkov marked sociability, analytical thinking, and digital literacy.

‘Sociology is one of the few disciplines developing at the border of mathematics and humanities. If medicine diagnoses a person, then sociology diagnoses society,’ he concluded.
