On September 1st traditional celebratory assembly devoted to Knowledge Day took place on Student Square at Saratov State University. Students received congratulations from SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko, SSU President L.U. Kossovich, Deputy Minister of Youth Policy, Sport and Tourism O.A. Dubovenko, Senior Priest of St. Cyril and Methodius Church adjoined to SSU Kirill Krasnoshchekov, vice-rectors, deans of the faculties, heads of the institutes and colleges.
The ceremony was conducted by the vice-rector for educational and organizational work I.G.Malinski who called Knowledge Day a day for those who aspires after search and discovery.
The celebratory assembly started with the raising of Russian Federation, Saratov region and SSU flags that was performed by Professor, Doctor of Social Science, Dean of Sociology Faculty S.G. Ivchenkov, 4 year post-graduate student of the Department of Radiotechnology and Electrodynamics Georgi Sevostyanov and Master’s degree student of Sociology Faculty, 2016 Olympic games finalist, Master of Sport of International grade of kayaking and canoeing Kira Stepanova.
The SSU Rector A.N.Chumachenko addressed first-year students and wished for them to not only formally enter the university but become parts of the close-knit team.
Rector also expressed his gratitude to the university’s friends and partners as well as representatives of the local government, and pointed out their input in the development and prosperity of SSU. He conveyd congratulations from the Chair of SSU Board of Trustees, Chair of the State Duma Committee on Labour, Social Policy and Veterans O.U.Batalina and Saratov Region Chief Federal Inspector M.V.Alyoshina.
Special gratitude was expressed towards First Chairman of SSU Board of Trustees, First Deputy of Presidential Chief of Staff V.V.Volodin, who helped to make the university how it is today, something the whole region is proud of. "With such support we have to maintain the status of one of the leading universities of the country", Rector pointed out.
After that flowers were laid onto the Memorial of the Victims of the Great World War and N.G.Chernyshevsky Monument after whom the university is named.
Deputy Minister of Youth Policy, Sport and Tourism of Saratov region O.A. Dubovenko delivered a speech at the celebratory assembly. He called Saratov university a forge where scientists, creative people and young leaders are made and which is the basis for many city youth organization.
Senior Priest of St. Cyril and Methodius Church Kirill Krasnoshchekov addressed everyone and conveyed greetings on behalf of Saratov and Volsk Metropolitan Longin. He congratulated first-year students on entering such a respectable educational institution and wished for them to take student's duties seriously and responsibly as their future depends on it.
Following the tradition, as the closing part of the ceremony first-year students were presented with symbolic student ID card and record book. This year those were given by A.N. Chumachenko to the student of Faculty of Nonlinear Processes Alexandra Bogomolova and the student of Faculty of Nano- and Biomedical Technologies Konstantin Kim. They expressed their certainty that SSU is a unique university giving opportunities for its students to develop both academically and creatively.
Apart from the official part, performers from the Student Club - such as Master’s degree student of Faculty of Pedagocical and Special Needs Education Maria Demidova, prize winner of “Russian Student Spring” festival Olga Ilyasova, and the band “Prime Time”– demonstrated their talents.
Among other activities students participated in a flashmob, a quiz and a photoshoot in front of SSU banner. First-year students were also presented with issues of student magazine “SGUshchenka”.
