Dear colleagues, staff, and students!
Today, we are celebrating the birthday of our native university – a place where knowledge and experience are stored and multiplied, traditions and breakthrough ideas get along. For 114 years, our university has become one of the leading scientific and educational centres in Russia.
The oldest university in the region, the Imperial Nicholas University, Saratov State University named after N.G. Chernyshevsky, awarded the Order of the Red Banner of Labor, and in modern history – the National Research University, a participant in the Priority 2030 federal programme.
Just think about the numbers: more than 19 thousand students, more than 1300 teachers, more than 600 partner employers, 22 educational units, 318 educational programs, 18 academic buildings. We are all proud of our alma mater! And there are more and more reasons for pride every day. And in all directions.
Eight scientists from Saratov State University entered the top 2% of the most cited scientists in the world, according to the largest international scientific publishing house Elsevier. Two projects, the Smart Sleep Laboratory and the Magnetic Metamaterials laboratory, received support in the RNF competition Conducting research by world-class scientific laboratories as part of implementing the priorities of scientific and technological development of the Russian Federation. The scientific groups will be given 30 million roubles each. It is important that our young scientists participate in all major SSU studies. Federal news feeds regularly write about their developments and inventions.
It was at SSU that the First Education salon of the Saratov region was held in the Year of the teacher and Mentor. It is symbolic that the closing of the year will be held on our site tomorrow. Our university is known for its strong pedagogical projects far beyond the region: classes are held in the Pedagogical Classroom and the CONSILIUM Centre, the Week of Pedagogical Education festival and the Summer School of Young Teachers were successfully held. Oleg Yankovskii, a graduate of SSU, became the winner of the 2023 Teacher of the Year of Russia All-Russian competition.
Of course, our strength lies in our younger generation – our students. They continue to win in intellectual, professional, creative contests, and sports competitions. The Council of Undergraduates and Postgraduates, SSU, became the best at the 9th Student Russia All-Russian Forum, and according to the results of monitoring the effectiveness of the implementation of youth policy and academic affairs, SSU entered the top-10 in the country.
Our university is distinguished by a special atmosphere of mutual assistance, support, attention to each other, willingness to engage in dialogue and together approach the truth in its highest understanding. I am sure that our good traditions will be strengthened every year, and bold ideas will come to life! It is no coincidence that Minister Valerii Falkov emphasized the special vocation of our university. We will always be at the forefront of Russian science and higher education.

SSU has turned 114 years old, which means that next year is even more important and responsible for us, because it is an anniversary year. May the coming year be eventful, successful, and prosperous for all of us!
