There has finished the III Congress of Young Scientists, which was held in the Sirius Science and Arts Park, which has been held from November 28 to November 30. The large-scale forum brought together more than 5,000 specialists from 85 regions of the Russian Federation and more than 35 other countries. The SSU delegation included 16 staff members and 2 students. In three days, they attended about 50 events: discussions, panel discussions, expert sessions, master classes, pitch sessions; participated in cultural and sports programmes, and enjoyed the exhibition exposition.

At the forum, President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin held a meeting with young scientists, where he announced that scholarships for some categories of postgraduates would increase to 75 thousand roubles.

During the forum, the SSU participants acted as speakers at expert and pitch sessions (Sofia Tikhonova and Olga Goryacheva), won the Roscongress Tennis Cup (Igor Filchenkov), finished the RSF School and received the certificates of the participants. Olga Goryacheva received gratitude from RSF for presenting the results of research supported by the RSF grant.

On the final day of the forum, the SSU participants attended the plenary session Science – Space of Opportunities. It was moderated by Deputy Prime Minister Dmitrii Chernyshenko. The discussion was also attended by Adviser to the President of Russia Andrei Fursenko, Minister of Science and Higher Education Valerii Falkov, Minister of Healthcare Mikhail Murashko, Chair of the Sirius Federal Territory Council Elena Shmelyova, Rector of Lomonosov Moscow State University Victor Sadovnichy, and CEO of the State Atomic Energy Corporation Rosatom Alexei Likhachev. At the plenary session, the speakers, successful young researchers, talked about their projects and educational trajectories.

The participants of the Saratov State University delegation shared their impressions of this year's programme.

Associate Professor of the Department of Radiotechnology and Electrodynamics Pavel Barkov believes that the congress provides a unique opportunity to discuss various fields of science. ‘We have managed to attend many interesting and diverse expert sessions, master classes, and panel discussions. I would like to highlight the programme of the RSF School, where we were told what project managers should pay attention to and where we found out the development of new areas of the Foundation's affairs. A master class on the popularization of scientific knowledge was held, where they talked about the peculiarities of communication between science and society, its advantages for researchers and how to learn to translate information from an academic language into a popular scientific one.’

According to Dmitrii Melnichuk, Associate Professor of the Department of Functions and Approximations Theory, the congress members had the opportunity to share experience and knowledge with specialists from related scientific spheres. ‘Important events were lectures and presentations that were held during the three days of the congress, meetings with colleagues and discussion of topical issues related to the transformation of industries and education. Thanks to my participation in the congress, I was able to share the SSU experience and get new ideas, as well as meet potential partners in my fields.’

Associate Professor of the Department of General and Counselling Psychology Ekaterina Zinchenko was impressed by the scale of the scientific event. ‘There has been a huge number of work sites, exhibitions, and most importantly, super-professional speakers. This is my first time at such an event, so the experience is amazing. The discussions at the sessions make you think and look at the problem you are studying from a completely different angle. I learned useful things for myself at such sessions as "Science and Arts: The Connection of Times, New Approaches to Talent Training and Scientific Technologies for Creating Masterpieces and The Present and Future of Interdisciplinary Brain Research. I am also interested in artificial intelligence. This topic was repeatedly dicsussed during the congress, where outstanding researchers and scientists such as Albert Yefimov, Olga Kardymon, Alexander Krainov and others talked about the use of AI in various spheres of life, as well as shared their personal experience of using ChatGPT.’

‘We have managed to participate in a dialogue with representatives of Russian Science Foundation and heard how to properly prepare applications and grant reports. Many legal issues have become clearer. I especially remember the lecture on how science fiction guides the development of progress and determines the attitude of the media to the latest achievements,’ Associate Professor of the Department of Dynamic Modelling and Biomedical Engineering Yurii Ishbulatov said.

For the first time, students of the Biology Faculty, SSU, Dmitrii Golubev and Alina Pushkova attended the congress. ‘We are amazed by the scale of this event. Every detail has been thought out: from meeting guests and drawing up a programme to the minute-by-minute schedule of lectures. It is especially pleasant to realise that we were the only students among the delegation. And both are from the biology department! It is a great honour for us to be chosen to participate in the congress. So many incredibly interesting works were presented as part of the poster sections! It seems that we have not had time to see everything even in three days,’ Dmitrii Golubev said.
