Today it became known about obtaining a license to conduct educational activities in the specialties of "medical biophysics", "medical biochemistry", "medical cybernetics", which will operate at the new faculty of fundamental medicine and medical technology.

The initiative to open such a faculty belongs to V.V. Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma of Russia, first Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the University. Vyacheslav Viktorovich shared his idea of opening a faculty, designating its role in the development of education and science in the Saratov region in his programmatic speech at the celebration of the 110th anniversary of the university on December 20, 2019.

In accordance with the Order of Rosobrnadzor, Saratov State University received a license to conduct educational activities in the specialties of “medical biophysics”, “medical biochemistry”, and “medical cybernetics”. Currently, the university is doing a lot of preparatory work related to the opening of a new faculty. Curricula were developed on the basis of federal state educational standards, the basic educational programs were designed, staffing and material and technical conditions were formed to ensure the work of this faculty.

The creation of a medical faculty at Saratov University is not accidental. Throughout its history, but especially intensively in recent years, SSU has been conducting medical research. Today it is first of all world-class laboratories created within the framework of the Government megagrant program. The projects of SSU scientists in this field, including those with international participation, have repeatedly received grant support. The share of these studies began to prevail over the number of projects in other fields of science.

So, in the laboratory “Remote-controlled systems for theranostics”, opened in 2014, they study the production of interactive nanoengineering systems (carriers) based on the principles of assembly of nanostructured materials. In other words, scientists are exploring ways and means of targeted drug delivery in the body. Medical topics are being actively developed as part of the Biomedical Photo Acoustics area.

Since 2018, researchers at the Biomedical Photoacoustic Laboratory have been developing a breakthrough approach to early diagnosis and treatment of oncological, infectious and cardiovascular diseases using the method of photoacoustic flow cytometry based on the use of pulsed laser radiation and registration of ultrasonic vibrations that occur when it acts on absorbing objects in tissues and blood.

The Smart Sleep Laboratory, established in 2019, helps SSU scientists and their colleagues from Germany explore the mechanisms underlying the phenomenon of cleansing brain tissue from toxins during sleep; create new scientific concepts in the anatomy and physiology of humans and animals about the structure and functions of cerebral lymphatic vessels as a drainage and cleansing system of the brain and the features of its nightly activation; to develop night therapy and breakthrough portable smart technologies for managing sleep regenerative properties for neurorehabilitation medicine on examples of pathologies associated with impaired lymphatic drainage of the brain: Alzheimer's disease, neonatal hemorrhages and maxillofacial and nasal injuries.

Since 2018, in the laboratory of “Medical Decision Making Support Systems” laboratory, a prototype of a medical decision making support system in reconstructive surgery has been developed to increase the effectiveness of treating patients with injuries and diseases of the spinal-pelvic complex.

University scientists work in various fields of medicine: this is research in the field of ophthalmology, medical ecology, biotechnology, cardiology, health-saving technologies.

These and other studies in the field of medicine, successfully carried out at the university, will create the necessary scientific base for the educational process in the new faculty. Initiative V.V. Volodina will allow the new university faculty of fundamental medicine and medical technology to become a scientific and educational structure, preparing first of all the modern generation of scientists in demand in medical centers and laboratories.
