On 3 December Gymnasium №7 hosted the Research-to-Methodology Council for SSU Pedagogy Education. There the council members and SSU deans and directors discussed modern school education issues and attended the lessons conducted by young university graduates.

In the beginning, Principal Irina A. Orlova told them about the gymnasium history, its staff, and the curriculums.

‘Due to our education environment the school students become more inquisitive and learn how to love their hometown and its heroes. Even the walls of our institution have an education function as they depict the portraits and short biographies of officers, researchers, and creative people who have made Saratov famous. Besides, we often organise exhibition displays devoted to them.’

To prove it the principal showed the most interesting exhibiting items and invited the meeting members into the classrooms and the ceremony hall.

After that the guests attended the lessons for 1st-form and 5th-form school students. They had been prepared by students and graduates of the Faculty of Pedagogical and Special Needs Education.

A graduate of Saratov University Olga A. Nikitina held a lesson for 1st-form school students titled To Add and to Subtract 1. She used both traditional education methods and modern interactive technologies. The university professors noted the high level of professionalism, and the young teacher had worked in the gymnasium for one year only.

Besides, 2nd-year students of the Faculty of Pedagogical and Special Needs Education had a lesson with 5th-form school students dedicated to traffic rules, and Deputy Principal for Security Aleskei V. Buramenskii helped the students prepare it.

Thus, the school students imagined they were drivers and pedestrians and participated in the quiz. They answered the questions easily and explained what both categories of people should do. Then the children drew the safe routes from their houses to the school.

Other 5th-form school students had a lesson on local history conducted by a teacher of history and social studies Daria N. Okina. She used the methodology materials of master degree students of the Faculty of Pedagogical and Special Needs Education. The children showed a great interest to the history of their region. The school students accomplished the tasks connected with the city flag and arms.

After that Chair of the Department of Pedagogy Child Maria P. Zinovyeva drew the conclusion and commented on pedagogy personnel education. She pointed out that young specialists develop professional competences not only when they study at university but when they start working as well.

Head of Priority Projects and Programmes Elena G. Yelina marked the productive long-term cooperation of the university and schools.

‘There are four departments in Saratov University which closely cooperate with schools, and they are important because they are aimed at our potential students. We are glad that due to the staff members of those four departments we can trace the progress of our mutual students. Even today at the lessons we understood who preferred STEM subjects and liberal arts.

We are proud that together the staff of the university and Gymnasium 7 provides education for not only new generations of talented and ambitious enrolees and but brilliant teachers as well who are always demanded at the labour market. The maths lesson conducted by Olga Nikitina proves it,’ said Elena Yelina.

Also she expressed her gratitude to the principal and the teachers as they help young specialists at the beginning of their career.

‘25% of the courses in pedagogy consists of different internships in schools. Of course, we, the university professors, cannot do without your support. And the mentor system is really relevant for students as 70% of them are going to work at school. We are grateful to the principals and the teachers who supervise young specialists.’
