Saratov Citizens Participated in the All-Russian Geography Dictation in SSU’s building X

On Sunday, November 20, in building X of Saratov University the All-Russian Geography Dictation was held by Russian Geographical Society (RGS) and gathered 350 people. Students, teachers, deans and directors of SSU faculties and institutes, as well vice-rectors and Rector A.N. Chumachenko, together with other citizens checked their knowledge of geography. 
 
Before the dictation started, the participants had watched short videos and learnt lots of interesting facts about Russia.
 
The host of the event was a master’s degree student of the Faculty of Law, Chair of Undergraduate and Graduate Student Council, students’ rights commissioner Georgiy Bolotov. He spoke about the history of the event that was first conducted on November 1, 2015 on President V.V. Putin’s initiative who is the Chair of RGS’ Board of Trustees.
 
Member of RGS Presidium, SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko greeted the guests, colleagues and students and thanked Russian Geographical Society for conducting the event.
 
Dean of the Faculty of Geography, Chair of the Saratov Regional RGS Department V.Z. Makarov spoke about the importance of knowing about geography as it unites people all over the country.
 
After a short warm-up, the participants got to the test itself. They had 45 minutes to complete 30 questions. A.N. Chumachenko, Doctor of Geography, confessed that even he had a difficulty with one of the questions. 
 
Vice-Rector for Educational Work E.G. Elina said that her personal touristic and literary experience, as well as school courses of geography and history, helped her complete the tasks.
 
Apart from SSU, the dictation could have also be taken at the Lyceum of Humanities and Economics, general school №43, Raduga Cultural and Exhibition Center, Petrovsk branch of  SSTU and other institutions.
 
All the participants were assigned an identification number using which they would learn about their results on the website of Russian Geographical Society after December 20.
