On Career Day, High School Students Learned about Prospects of Studying at SSU

On December 11, the students and staff of Saratov State University took part in the career guidance event, Career Day. During the day, an exhibition of Saratov universities, colleges, and enterprises was held, which was visited by about 2.5 thousand schoolchildren and students. The event took place at the Socio-Economic Institute, SSTU.

Governor of Saratov Region Roman Busargin, got acquainted with the expositions that were presented at the exhibition. At the Saratov University pavilion, the head of the region was met by the SSU Rector Alexei Chumachenko, Vice-Rector for Secondary Vocational Education and Social Work Olga Nesterova.

Governor Roman Busargin stressed that the exhibition is useful for schoolchildren and future graduates. ‘Students, especially the last years, always have concerns about further employment. Their experiences can be understood. This campaign is aimed at supporting the guys, giving them the opportunity to study the labour market in advance, and choose suitable options for themselves. Many start building a career even before graduating from university or college. In addition, it is a good career guidance tool for schoolchildren. By studying the proposals of employers, they will be able to understand which specialties are most in demand now.’

Rector Alexei Chumachenko noted the opportunity of young people to influence changes in the higher education system, the active cooperation of world-renowned scientific schools with young scientists of the university. One of the organizations is the SSU Student Recruitment Agency, which helps young people build a career path after graduation. In addition, SSU is an employer for graduates – this year more than 70 people decided to link their professional lives with the university.

When visiting the SSU stand, students got acquainted with the opportunity to receive education in various fields: from information technology to the humanities, learned about the admission campaign and open days. Future applicants were interested in the information that graduates can receive two diplomas at once upon graduation, participate in the Digital Department project, which will expand the range of vacancies for employment. An important part of the SSU presentation campaign was the information that during their studies, students work with world-class scientists and are involved in research supported by grants.

Everyone played a win-win lottery and received souvenirs from the university. Guests of the event can find themselves in the photos in the album of the SSU VKontakte group.

The guests of the exhibition were greeted by volunteers of the Regional Centre for Employment Promotion, SSU, Head of the Office for Social Work Marina Kabanova, Head of the Department for Admission Organisation Sergei Khmelyov, Head of the Regional Centre for Employment Promotion Ekaterina Yurova, and a member of the Central Admissions Committee Alexander Burmistrov.

All universities of the city and leading colleges of the region, the Centre for Advanced Vocational Training of Saratov Region, 20 industrial and 10 agro-industrial enterprises presented their stands at the exposition. The Work of Russia personnel centre functioned within the framework of the exhibition. University students got acquainted with the career prospects that await them in the Saratov region after completing their studies.
