Lawyers Day is celebrated annually on December 3.
It was this day that Russian lawyers had considered their professional holiday until 1917. Then, the lawyers were congratulated on Police Day. And, in January 2008, at the meeting of the Association of Lawyers of Russia, the idea of establishing a new professional holiday was supported. The date of December 3 was chosen again due to the fact that, on that day in 1864, Alexander II initiated the reform of the court system of the Russian Empire, his decree established the bar and notary associations, as well as jury courts.
Dean of the Faculty of Law Galina Komkova, shared her opinion about the profession, law studies, and training in an interview.
Law training in Saratov Region began with our university, since on July 1, 1917, during the period of the provisional government, three new faculties appeared – historical and philological, physical and mathematical, as well as legal.
The first dean of the Faculty of Law was a prominent legal scholar Gustav Telberg. The teaching staff from Lomonosov Moscow State University and other universities were invited to the faculty. Well-known law experts worked on it. Thus, the history of Russian law was taught by one of the founders of the history of state and law, Professor Seraphim Yushkov. A well-known specialist in the history of legal and political doctrines, Professor Stepan Kechekyan chaired the Department of Philosophy of Law. Professor Mikhail Agarkov, whose works in private law are studied by students even now, lectured at the Department of Civil Law.
The Faculty of Law, SSU, received its second birth in 2005.
