On October 19, a meeting of the Union of Rectors of Saratov region was held at Saratov University. Governor Roman Basargin, the Minister of Education of the region Mikhail Orlov, and rectors of Saratov universities took part in it.
The key topic on the agenda was the election of a new chairman of the union. The candidacy of SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko was proposed for that post. Colleagues unanimously supported him.
Roman Busargin congratulated Aleksei Chumachenko on his election and wished him success. Aleksei Chumachenko thanked the Governor and the union members for their trust. ‘In response to your support, I can say one thing: we will continue to work together and efficiently. Consolidation of our efforts is necessary both to complete the tasks defined by the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education and complete the tasks of social and economic development of the region. We must promote the promising initiatives of our Governor and the Government of Saratov Region, provide the region with highly qualified personnel, use the scientific and innovative resources of universities to the fullest extent to solve import substitution issues together with our industrial partners, pay priority attention to the spiritual and moral education of students, introducing them to the great history, culture, and significant events of the region.’
Then the participants of the meeting started discussing issues related to the targeted admission and employment of graduates.
The target admission in the 2022/23 academic year was reported by the Deputy Chair of the regional government, the Minister of Education of the region Mikhail Orlov. He noted the positive dynamics in the staffing of schools in the districts of the region with teaching staff. This, according to the minister, is largely the merit of the scientific and pedagogical staff of Saratov University. As a successful example of the training of future teachers, he mentioned the SSU Pedagogical Classroom. ‘Out of 109 graduates of the pedagogical class last year, 99 people enrolled in pedagogical courses at SSU. This is an indicator of the effectiveness of the new form of work that the university has undertaken.’
Rector of Saratov State University Aleksei Chumachenko, Acting Rector of Saratov State Technical University Sergei Naumov, Rector of Saratov State Medical University Andrei Yeremin, and Rector of Saratov State University of Genetics, Biotechnology and Engineering Dmitrii Solovyev commented on the results of admission in target areas at the universities.
During the discussion on improving the system of targeted training, there appeared a few proposals: to improve interaction between universities, district heads, and employers; to think over additional support for target students so that applicants would be very interested in admission and further employment; to prepare a technical task for customers with a list of necessary specialists.
‘The enterprises of the region need extra personnel. Import substitution is gaining momentum, production is expanding. In this situation, there is also such a tool – targeted training. We have to make it as effective as possible in our region,’ Roman Busargin said.
