The curriculum in marine geosteering has been developed at the Department of Geophysics of the Faculty of Geology, Saratov University. The course is the first and, in many ways, unique in Russia. The new article titled Marine Geosteering from Saratov in the Research City section is devoted to this course.

It consists of parts about dynamic borehole drilling of offshore objects, including geological and geomechanical modelling, drilling design, geophysical and geological-to-technological research, remote monitoring, and management decision-making.

The innovative discipline is based on the materials of well-known service companies, including those of LUKOIL-Nizhnevolzhskneft LLC and its leading geophysicist Mikhail Rakitin. The lectures and visual presentations of the subject of oil and gas education was initiated by the Department of Geophysics, SSU, and developed by a postgraduate Andrei Malyuga on the basis of Neftegazservice Saratov LLC and Geopromalliance LLC.

According to the representatives of the oil and gas industry, the future of drilling for oil and gas is horizontal boreholes, the success of which is determined by geosteering. This field is developing dynamically, and graduates of the marine geosteering discipline will always be in demand not only in Russia, but also abroad.
