The first issue of the Physical Education and University Sport journal was released. It was initiated by Saratov University and the Russian Student Sports Union. The journal consists of articles by theoreticians and practitioners from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Orenburg, Ryazan, Taganrog, Nizhnevartovsk, Omsk, and Saratov.

Its editor–in-chief is the President of the Russian Student Sports Union Sergei Seiranov. The editorial board includes the Director of the Institute of Sports and Physical Training Nailya Brilyonok, the Chair of the Department of Social Communications of the Faculty of Law Olga Golub, and the Dean of the Faculty of Sociology Sergei Ivchenkov.

The first number journal examines various issues of sociology of student sports and its economic, managerial, and pedagogical relations. All research materials are divided into topics: Sports and Society, Student Sports from the Manager’s Point of View, and Territory of Sports and Health.

The Minister of Sports of the Russian Federation, the Honourary President of the Russian Student Sports Union Oleg Matytsin in his address on the pages of the first issue wrote that the journal would become an actual platform for highlighting new approaches, advanced knowledge and experience accumulated in sports science. ‘I wish the editorial board of the journal to maintain a high level of published materials, contributing to the development of the world and Russian science in physical training and sports!’ the minister summed up.

SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko addressed to the members of the editorial board and the authors of the scientific journal, noting the unique and up-to-date character of the published materials. ‘There are quite a few sports journals published in Russia. However, there are no publications among them that would specialise in student sports. In this respect, the idea to establish the Physical Education and University Sport journal seems to me very relevant and timely. There is a long overdue need for an exchange of opinions of specialists working in this field, in the study of the processes taking place in this area, in the scientific analysis of the latest trends in the development of student sports. I am convinced that the new journal will confidently fill this niche and make its significant contribution to the study of these issues.’

This year the scientific journal will be published twice, and next year four issues are planned. The journal is included into RSCI and has a DOI. You can read the articles of the first issue of the Physical Education and University Sport journal here.

For the first time, it was presented at a meeting of the Working Party of the Commission under the Russian Ministry of Sports, which you can read about here.
