On June 22, the Government of Saratov Region hosted the opening ceremony of the fifth anniversary cohort of the Young Managers School of Saratov Region. The YMS project is being implemented by Saratov State University, P.A. Stolypin Institute of Management, and Saratov State Technical University.
Acting Governor of Saratov Region Roman Busargin congratulated the students on enrolling to the school. ‘The region needs professionals, including in management. We are waiting for your ideas and projects, we will implement them together, solve the problems of residents, look for new approaches in the development of our economy. Now there is a huge demand for people who are able to take responsibility, show results, a request for patriots who are ready to be useful to the region and Russia. He emphasised the vast experience of the universities where the project was implemented.
SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko delivered a welcoming speech. ‘It is very important for us that the literate and creative young people who have gathered in the hall today want to make a career here, in Saratov Region. Being one of the educational leaders in the Russian Federation, our university is ready to implement various tasks of the leadership of the country, the region, including the Young Managers School. Over the past four years, more than 130 students have graduated from the school. All of them successfully presented their graduation papers. I hope that the acquired knowledge and skills have been useful to them.’
Aleksei Chumachenko highlighted the diverse training of managers at three universities in Saratov, in particular, SSU trains students in the Psychological Technologies of Leadership and Management profile. ‘Each of our universities focuses on different modules. We consider psychological competence to be very important. Managers must understand people, foresee many situations, be able to restrain their emotions when necessary, show themselves as leaders. I hope we will be able to share this knowledge with each of you.’
The graduates of the previous cohorts congratulated future managers on entering the YNS and spoke about the implementation of their own projects. Anna Zemlyanukhina, an SSU graduate, a student of the first cohort of the school, the Head of the Administration of Atkarsk Municipal District, gave a parting word and shared her experience in implementing a tourist project. ‘You can prove yourself in any region, in every city, and in every village. If you are in the hall today, it means that you think the same way and came here to show your potential. First of all, the Young Managers School gives you an opportunity to express yourself, to become more competent, to produce ideas that municipalities develop,’ she said. The students of the new cohort of YMS shared their plans for the future.
To remind, in May, the potential candidates underwent in the third and the final testing – the psychological one. The first two qualifying stages – testing for knowledge in law and assessment of managerial competencies of the contestants – were held at the P.A. Stolypin Institute of Management. According to the results of three tests, 100 people were enrolled in the Young Managers School of Saratov Region project in 2022. In total, 148 people have submitted documents for participation in the project this year.
The professional retraining course in state and municipal management (the Psychological Technologies of Leadership and Management profile) is implemented at the Institute of Continuing Professional Education, Saratov University. Future managers will take such modules as The Psychological Technologies of Leadership and Management, The Development of Managerial Competencies, The Development of Personal Competencies, and The State and Municipal Management.
The course will be varied: the school students are to learn about the best management practices, participate in trainings, play a test game titled The Leadership in the Project Team, and present their graduation projects, which will be held in December in the Government of Saratov Region. The distinguished members will receive letters of recommendation and be included into the personnel pool of the executive authorities of Saratov Region and local self-government bodies, as well as in the pool of the governor's managerial personnel.
Maria Michurina, a graduate of the master's degree course of the Faculty of Law, SSU, and a student of the 2022 school at our university, shared her expectations about it. ‘In 2019, I graduated from the master's degree course of SSU, and I am very satisfied with the quality of education. All teaching staff have academic degrees, you can learn a lot from them. I was very pleased to study for a master's degree, so chose the classical university. I hope that the knowledge gained at the school will help me in my career, self-development, and achieving my goals.’
‘The Young Managers School provides new opportunities, and you many get acquainted with many people that may help you in the future. It is a good chance to start life anew and implement your plans. I chose SSU for my studies, since I graduated from the master's course of the university, and I would like to diversify my knowledge and skills, gain new experience. My project will be aimed at the development of creative youth and tourism. In my opinion, Saratov Region has the potential to attract people from other regions,’ Elizaveta Matyushkina, a participant in the new cohort of the 2022 YMS, said.
