A general meeting of the RAS members was held in Moscow from June 1 to June 3. The main topic was the election of new members of the Russian Academy of Sciences, the results of which were announced on Thursday. The list of elected academicians of the Russian Academy of Sciences includes a Russian scientist, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, a specialist in solid-state micro- and nanoelectronics as well as solid-state physics Sergei Nikitov.

He is the Director of the Kotelnikov Institute of Radio Engineering and Electronics of the Russian Academy of Sciences, which branch operates in Saratov and actively cooperates with Saratov university.

Sergei Nikitov heads the Research-to-Education Institute of Mechanics and Physics, SSU. One of the supporting structures of the Institute is Magnetic Metamaterials Laboratory, established as part of the implementation of Nikitov’s first megagrant at SSU. The Metamaterials based on photonic, phonon, plasmon, and magnon crystals and their application in microwave radioelectronics and photonics project has been successfully implemented in the first round of megagrants, but research is currently underway in the scientific laboratory related to the search for new types of information signal carriers based on the principles of magnonics and spintronics. Led by Sergei Nikitov, the research group developed a unique complex of spectroscopy of magnetic materials based on Mandelstam-Brillouin scattering of light. During this time, candidate and doctoral dissertations the laboratory has defended, including those supervised by Nikitov, have been successfully presented.

Now he remains the head of the laboratory. The research is still conducted there, active work is carried out with young researchers actively participating in it, modern equipment is used. The research carried out in the laboratory is included in the strategic project of the Priority 2030 programme.

The university staff congratulates Sergei Nikitov on his election to the Academician of the Russian Academy of Sciences!
