On October 16, 2021, at the age of 89, Professor Vladimir Strakhov died. His professional life was inextricably connected with Saratov State Pedagogical Institute and Saratov State University.
For 30 years he chaired the Department of Psychology of Pedagogical Institute, taught psychology to future teachers of different faculties, specialties, and profiles; his bright lectures will be remembered by many generations of students of the Faculty of Pedagogical and Special Needs Education, SSU, as well as the Faculty of Psychology, SSU.
Vladimir Strakhov will remain in our memory as a bright, productive, convinced researcher-psychologist, the author of more than 1000 research publications – articles, monographies, thematic collections. He studied the issues of attention psychology, educational psychology, sports psychology, literary, musical, and other types of creativity. He was a faithful keeper, successor, and spokesman for the traditions of his father – a famous Russian researcher, the founder of the Saratov psychological school Ivan Strakhov.
Vladimir Strakhov became the founder and long-term moderator of the Strakhov Readings annual international psychological conference, which brought together not only psychologists and teachers but also representatives of various professional communities from Saratov, Russia, and other countries. In addition to his own research, as an editor and compiler of many collective monographies and collections, he opened the way to science for interested young researchers. He brought up, taught how to work, shared his experience, supported, and promoted many of his young colleagues, who will carry a grateful memory of their Teacher for many years.
Vladimir Strakhov was a vivid example, unfortunately, of the outgoing generation of the real Saratov intelligentsia – he was well-educated, gifted in many spheres of life: as an athlete and s promoter of an active and healthy lifestyle, as a distinctive and talented artist, as a true connoisseur of poetry, music and theatre. He was a sociable person who easily and happily established and for many years maintained informal relations with many researchers from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Kazan, Yaroslavl and, of course, Saratov.
Saratov State University, the Faculty of Pedagogical and Special Needs Education, the Faculty of Psychology, SSU, Vladimir Strakhov’s colleagues and students express their deepest condolences to his family and friends.
Departure to the funeral service will be on October 18 at 12.30 p.m. from SSU Bldg. XII.
