The Cubism Exhibition was opened at Saratov University September, 21st. Being devoted to the 100th anniversary of physical and mathematical education at the university it was organized by the University History Museum and the University Veteran Union.

There are the pictures – still lifes and landscapes – created by the students of N.V. Leontieva, a member of the Union of Russian Artists, with five of them being the graduates of SSU Faculty of Physics.

Head of the University History Museum G.N. Bous noted that the works of the staff of Faculty of Physics made a great impression on the guests of the event due to the style and the coloring of the pictures. She also wished the artists to remain creative and exhibit in other exposition halls as well.

N.V. Leontieva spoke about teaching methods at the Course called ‘Cubism as a Visual Art of the 20th Century’. ‘In the beginning the students found out the oeuvre of such famous representatives of cubism as Pablo Picasso, Paul Cézanne, Georges Braque, Juan Gris, and Aristarkh Lentulov’, said Natalia Vladimirovna.

After that they learnt the techniques of six cubistic periods and used object discretization and other methods to create intensification hierarchy, transparent rhythm, silhouette fusion and generalization. Chief of Printing and Publication Department of the ‘News of Higher Education Institutions. Applied Nonlinear Dynamics’ Journal N.N. Lyovina stated that her colleagues had been attending the studio for more than ten years combining the classes with their work at university. The pictures displayed at SSU are a part of another exhibition – ‘Pleasure of Existence’ that had been opened in the Saratov Department of the Union of Russian Artists in August.

The artists depicted the Temple of All Religions in Kazan, St. Peter and Paul Cathedral in Peterhof, Trinity Bridge in Saint-Petersburg, the university campus and other attractions in the cubistic manner.

The exhibition is located on the 4th floor in Building X, and it will be open till October, 6th.
