Saratov delegation including SSU students successfully performed at the Volga Federal District Intellectual Olympiad. In general qualification Saratov team got the 7th place. The best results were in programming – SSU Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technologies students Roman Kireev and Ilya Los won the first and second places.
The Oliympiad took place at Ogarev Mordovia State University on March 23-24. the author of the project is Faculty of law student Aliena Trunova who, at the iVolga Forum, won a grant on hosting the intellectual Olympiad together with Mordovia State University representative Daria Kliver in 2015.
Russian Presidential Envoy in the Volga Federal Disctrict M.V. Babich who supervised the project welcomed the participants of the first Intellectual Olympiad. “You are the intellectual elite of our students. In a short time you will start working in large Russian companies, join industry, science, politics and government. We will do everything so that you get the best education and best opportunities for professional growth. Our country needs you in all economic areas, in all areas of our life”, the envoy addressed the students. Republic of Mordovia Head V.D. Volkov also congratulated the Olympiad participants.
200 students from 14 Volga regions competed to be the best. The teams included winners of university and regional stages. The district Olympiad included four competitions: management, Parliamentary Debate, “What?Where?When?” game, and Programming.
Roman Kireev and Ilya Los who participated in programming competition were the best. Roman won the first place and Ilya got the second. The students train in the Programmers Olympiad Training Center named after N.L. Andreeva.
“It is always great to win”, shared the winner Roman Kireev. “My partner Ilya usually solves problems better than me; I guess luck was on my side. We trained a lot and got good results. However, some problems were really difficult and unfortunately we did not solve them”. Next year students plan to go to World Programming Championship final.
The Olympiad program also included a round table discussion “Developing Intellectual and Innovative Forms and Methods of University Work” chaired by deputy presidential envoy Yu.V. Zolotareva. SSU Faculty of Law student, Saratov Region Youth Government Chair, member of Volga Federal District Youth Council Aliona Trunova and head of Saratov team, Faculty of Pedagogical and Special Needs Education Anastacia Balakireva participated in the round table.
The guest and participants enjoyed excursions around main Saransk sights including Erzia Fine Arts Museum. Regional stages of Intellectual Olympiad for school students took place at the same time; the finals would take place in Saratov on March 30-31. Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technologies would host a programming competition.
