Summer School Members Took Re-Training Course

On August 10, there finished the Summer School for Young Teachers entitled Teacher – Lesson – Pupil: Age-Old Traditions and New Meaning.

The closing ceremony was attended by SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko, Head of Priority Projects and Programmes Elena Yelina, Dean of the Faculty of Psychological, Pedagogical, and Special Needs Education Tatyana Firsova, Director of the Institute of Philology and Journalism Lyudmila Borisova, Chair of the Corporate Department of Russian Philology and Media Education Olga Dmitriyeva, Chair of the Department of Pedagogy Ekaterina Balakireva, Head of the Project Office Maria Yerokhina, the head teacher of the Summer School, Deputy Head of the Office of Social Work Marina Kabanova, Deputy Director of the Institute of Philology and Journalism for Academic Affairs and Public Relations Roman Pavlenko, and Deputy Chair of the regional organization of the All-Russian Trade Union of Education Galina Popova.

SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko marked that the university was always ready to support young teachers. ‘I get enthusiastic responses from the university mentors who have worked with you for four days. We were able to communicate effectively, the university and the school, exchange ideas, and share relevant knowledge. I hope that our interaction will continue: SSU is waiting for you at the next Summer School. We will continue to support young teachers at our pedagogical initiatives of the Priority 2030 strategic project. Surely, the ideas that were suggested at the intensive course will be implemented at schools.’

Elena Yelina noted how highly interested thew teachers are during the Summer School. ‘You were all appropriate, consistent, harmonious, and you all speak well. I believe that teachers start with how they look and how they speak. Today, we have discussed the most pressing topics that you face in your schools. Aleksei Nikolaevich and I have prepared a small gift for you – the Sentimental Walk album with photos of Saratov State University. I hope that the university will always be in your soul.’

Rector Aleksei Chumachenko presented certificates of advanced training to the participants of the Summer School. Everyone was presented with the Sentimental Walk album with university photographs of Gennadii Savkin.

Daniil Filatov, a history and social studies teacher at Saratov School No. 22, commented what he remembered about the summer school. ‘An invitation application came to my work, and, now, I have been participating in the Summer School for the second year in a row. I studied for the sake of new knowledge, experience, and communication with colleagues of other subjects. Our strength is that we are different: we represent different subjects, have different professional experience. Due to this, we have formed a set of ideas that can be applied in teaching. The summer school was structured, interactive, and capacious. In the new academic year, I will become a classroom teacher, so the knowledge gained will be especially useful.’

Ekaterina Yartseva, an English teacher at Balakovo school No. 25, admitted that she had established close cooperation with the university due to another SSU pedagogical project. ‘At first, I studied economy and translation in this sphere, but I have been re-trained as an English teacher and am now entering the master's degree course. I learned about the school at the classes of the CONSILIUM Young Teachers Support Centre. I achieved my main goal, I met with the same young teachers, shared my experience, and discussed the triggering points. I think many people are familiar with how hard it is to join a working team where everyone has known each other for decades. I liked the lectures, the teachers were very active and positive. Thanks to working in groups, we were able to exchange experiences with other teachers. It is important that at the intensive we did not only share the problems, but also found solutions.’

The summer school for young teachers is part of the Teachers in the Educational Paradigm strategic project, which is included in the Priority 2030 programme of state support and development of universities.
