On August 7, at Saratov State University there opened the second Summer School for Young Teachers entitled Teacher – Lesson – Pupil: Age-Old Traditions and New Meanings. The sections of the school are devoted to the work of teachers of the new generation.
Young teachers from all over Saratov Region take part in the annual forum. The event was launched by SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko and Head of Priority Projects and Programmes, SSU, Elena Yelina.
Aleksei Chumachenko stressed that the educational intensive implemented the idea of continuing education for novice teachers who had been students themselves no so long ago. ‘The teaching community is really interested in our project, a large number of applications for participation proves it. Unfortunately, today we are faced with the fact that students who are not motivated to stay in the profession enter teaching courses. Saratov State University is actively working in this direction – in the University Pedagogical Classroom for high school students we help unlock the potential of schoolchildren by holding lectures for them given by SSU teaching staff.’
‘At the Summer School, we meet with those who need to become better in their profession, improve their skills. Almost all those gathered in the hall are SSU graduates, many of you have already participated in the university pedagogical projects. During the intensive course, we will give you high-quality knowledge in modern pedagogical technologies and how you might apply them at work. It is important for us to communicate with you, we want to hear your opinions and find out how to adjust the teacher training course at the university. Starting from your first experience, you will be able to say what you should pay attention to when preparing your future colleagues – a new generation of specialists,’ the rector said.
Head of Priority Projects and Programmes, SSU, Elena Yelina commented that due to the educational programme of the summer school, young teachers would discuss the latest pedagogical practices. ‘The name of our school covers all the issues of the intensive. In these four days, we will talk about the issues of entering a new unexplored world, which is a school for novice teachers. A group of the university staff and lecturers of the highest, expert level will work with you. They will conduct classes, analyse speeches and projects as experts, and help you as tutors. We want our communication to be as a dialogue, in our classes, you will share your experience and express your opinion.’
The opening ceremony was also attended by Director of the Institute of Philology and Journalism Lyudmila Borisova, Dean of the Faculty of the Psychological, Pedagogical, and Special Needs Education Tatyana Firsova, Head of the Office of Priority Projects and Programmes Maria Yerokhina, Chair of the Corporate Department of Russian Philology and Media Education Olga Dmitriyeva, Head of the Department of Pedagogy Ekaterina Balakireva, Chair of the Department of Information Systems and Technologies in Education Natalia Alexandrova, a methodologist of the Centre for Support of Talented Children Olga Prozorova, Deputy Director of the Institute of Philology and Journalism for Academic Affairs and Public Relations Roman Pavlenko, and the head teacher of the Summer School, Deputy Head of the Office of Social Work Marina Kabanova.
The 2023 programme has been completely updated, which allows students to participate in the university project again, gain new knowledge, and develop their skills. The participants will learn about the peculiarities of teaching, social assistance, psychology at school and talk about the hobbies of modern schoolchildren, talk about the hobbies of modern schoolchildren, as well as the boundaries and challenges of digitalization. The members will attend consultations and interactive workshops.
On the first day of the summer school, the teachers will discuss the following topics – Pedagogical councils for young teachers: three components of professional success and Inclusive competence of teachers together with experts – Associate Professors of the Department of National History and Historiography Anton Luchnikov and Vladimir Khasin, as well as teacher of the Department of Special Needs Education Marina Nikitina. The participants will start working on group projects, which will be presented on the final day at the Do We Know, Can We Do It, Do we Teach? business game.
At the end of the school, the teachers will receive the approved training certificates.
The summer school for young teachers is part of the Teachers in the Educational Paradigm strategic project, which is included in the Priority 2030 programme of state support and development of universities.
