In January 18-20 the Winter Triathlon National Championship took place in the Yaroslavl Region. The competition consisted of two parts – the individual one and the team scoring. A 1st-year student of the Institute of Sports and Physical Training Ekaterina Karpova won 1 silver and 1 bronze medals.
Ekaterina has been professionally doing sports for nine years. Nearly a year ago she started doing triathlon after biathlon. At the championship in the Yaroslavl Region she had to run for 3000m and ride the bicycle and ski for 5000m.
‘The race appeared to be very difficult. The weather was terrible, and many sportsmen fainted and couldn’t finish the race,’ said the athlete.
She added that she fell down during the race a few times.
Being a member of the Saratov Region team the student of the Institute of Sports and Physical Training became the second in the individual race.
The following day she took part in the competition as a member of the Chuvash Republic team, and they won the bronze medal in team scoring.
Ekaterina had started preparing for the championship in summer. She had trained three times a day and gone to training camps in Kislovodsk, Elbrus, Moscow, Finland, and Abkhazia.
‘I liked the competition in the Yaroslavl Region a lot. I have gained an important experience here, and it will help me in the future. My motto is to cycle without a stop no matter how difficult it seems to be,’ commented the sportsman.
Also she said she won the medals due to her coach – World-Class Triathlete D.O. Bregeda.
‘My coach is my role model, he regularly wins the races. He is a hero, and I am proud of him. He does a lot for his athletes, including myself, and I am very grateful for it. I suppose the people like Dmitrii Olegovich can help young sportsmen gain victories,’ underlined Ekaterina.
The institute student will participate in the competition in Italy in February, and she has already been training for the championship.
