By the beginning of the new academic year, the Freshman Guide section was updated on the SSU website. It will help young students get accustomed to the university life faster.

The guide is divided into following thematic headings – Tips, About SSU, Student Achievements, Who Is This, Campus, Studies, Student Life, SSU Student in the City, Science, Library, Social Support, and SSU Internet.

In the Councils, third- and fourth-year students and graduates of the university share their own educational experience and life hacks. The About SSU heading introduces the university: the history of its opening, the museums, the structure, and the management. Here, feel the “pulse of the university life” and subscribe to the communities of your institute, faculty, or college, as well as an interesting student community – the Sports Club, the Trade Union Committee, the Council of Undergraduates and Postgraduates, or the Student HR Agency.

In the Student Life section, first-year students will learn more about all youth associations and student organisations of the university. Read about why it is worth joining them in the Student Achievements section.

The Science section will give hints to those who have decided to choose the scientific path, participate in a conference, or create their own “start-up as a graduation project”. The Library section will help you not get lost in the SSU Scientific Library and get educational and fiction literature there.

The most informative headings are Campus and Studies. Here, first-year students will learn the most necessary things – the location of academic buildings, dormitories, and canteens, their schedule, how to register for military service, apply for a state-funded place if you study on fee-paying basis, and much more. The Who Is This section will tell you how the rector looks like, how headmen, tutors and curators differ, and who is a trade union leader.

The Social Support sections and SSU Student in the City will tell you why it is profitable to be a student – how to get a social scholarship or financial assistance, a discount on lunches, or a trip to university, etc.

SSU Internet is not a myth. Find out how to have access to it in the corresponding section.

The Freshman Guide answers the main questions that young students may have. At the same time, its materials will be useful to undergraduates, graduates, and employees of Saratov State University.
