On August 1, deputies of the Saratov Regional Duma wet with graduates of the regional universities in the conference hall of the Medical Pre-University, SSMU. The participants discussed current employment issues for young people.
At the meeting, SSU was represented by Daria Molchanova (the Faculty of Sociology), Angelina Poroshina (the Faculty of Psychological, Pedagogical, and Special Needs Education), Daniil Pronin (the Institute of Philology and Journalism), and Maria Chevtayeva (the Institute of History and International Relations). The delegation was headed by Olga Pishchalnikova, Deputy Head of the Office of Social Work.
The meeting was opened by Chair of the Committee on Education and Culture of the regional Duma Alexander Blatman. He spoke about the regional laws that supported graduates financially at the beginning of their career path. ‘You have the opportunity to receive a one-time payment when you start working in a rural institution subordinate to the regional government. Due to this measure, ex-students are supposed to return to their hometowns after training and develop them. In addition, young people can reimburse the costs of purchasing housing when choosing a job in remote areas.’
Chair of the Committee on Finance, Taxes, and Property Aleksei Antonov pointed out that the majority of graduates did not plan to leave Saratov, but wanted to stay in the region and apply their knowledge for the development of the region.
‘Our graduates are in great demand today, and large companies that need highly qualified specialists come to the region. In order for graduates to know about vacancies, regulatory legal acts are being developed in the region concerning the employment of young professionals, support measures, a certain portal is needed that would gather this information. We still have to think about the form, but it will definitely benefit a new generation of applicants,’ he said.
Deputy Chair of the Committee on Sports, Tourism, and Youth Affairs Artyom Chebotaryov, as well as Deputy Chair of the Committee on Education and Culture Irina Kolesnikova spoke about the advantages of the region for young people and tools that helped graduates find jobs easier.
The event was organised as a dialogue between government officials and young people. The SSU students noted that Saratov State University provided serious support in finding a job, namely the Regional Centre for Graduate Employment Promotion and Labour Market Adaptation, SSU. In 2021, SSU joined the Faculty Digital Career Environment online platform, which helps find a vacancy or a place for an internship.
