The primary division of the Russian Movement of Children and Youth, The Movement of the First, has been opened at Saratov State University.

The first meeting of schoolchildren from the organisation with the university community took place on Russian Science Day. They talked with SSU Rector Aleksei Chumachenko, got acquainted with scientists, and visited research laboratories.

In honour of the opening of the primary division of the movement, a panel discussion was held with the participation of the Deputy Minister of Youth Policy and Sports of the region Angelina Belovitskaya, the Chair of the regional division of the movement Anna Popova, and student youth. The guests were greeted by Rector Aleksei Chumachenko and the Vice-Rector for Youth Policy and Organisational Work Anton Golovchenko.

According to Rector Aleksei Chumachenko, youth initiatives will be given a new impetus due to the opening of the organization division at SSU. ‘The laboratories that you will see today have unique equipment. Promising and talented young researchers, as well as experienced scientists with a worldwide reputation work there. I am very glad that the university is joining The Movement of the First. We are ready to support this right and necessary initiative.’

The Deputy Minister of Youth Policy and Sports of the region Angelina Belovitskaya noted the importance to make children get interested in science from an early age. ‘Today Saratov State University is once again becoming a platform for attracting young people. At SSU, you will be able to develop your competencies in any area. The university is ready to implement useful ideas and projects together with young people, showing an example to other educational organisations.’

The Chair of the regional division of The Movement of the First Anna Popova hoped that high school students, after meeting with university scientists, would be inspired by their example and in the future would develop their own projects in the laboratories of the university.

Associate Professor of the Department of Optics and Biophotonics Ivan Fedosov told the schoolchildren about the Smart Sleep Lab. In his report entitled Sleep under the Microscope Ivan Fedosov spoke about the importance of sleep and scientific approaches to the study of this biological process.

Olga Prozorova, a methodologist of the Centre for the Support of Talented Children, recalled that SSU is the only university in the region that trains specialists in pedagogical courses. There is the Pedagogical Classroom at the university, where teachers-to-be are engaged. Thanks to the strategic project of the Priority 2030 programme, they begin to master the profession at school.

Margarita Rybakova, a student of the Faculty of Psychology, said that the university is a major platform for the development of student teams. In summer, the members of the student teams will help schoolchildren find their vocation in pedagogy. Teenagers will be able to work in the children's Blue Bird health camp as volunteers.

After the panel discussion, the guests visited the scientific laboratories of the university. During the excursion, the children found out about the technological fab lab – a complex of four interdisciplinary laboratories. At the Faculty of Fundamental Medicine and Medical Technologies, the children saw the Pirogov anatomical interactive complex. With its help, you can visualize the skeleton, muscles, and organs of a person. The device is used in the study of anatomy, a significant amount of basic medical disciplines.

In the Smart Sleep Laboratory, the schoolchildren learned about the study of the rehabilitation capabilities of lymph vessels and ways to cleanse the brain of toxins during sleep. The research is carried out on laboratory animals, which were shown to young visitors. Due to the research scientists will be able to develop “smart devices” for medicine.

By Russian Science Day, primary divisions of the Russian Movement of Children and Youth were opened in about 100 universities of the country. SSU was chosen as the first platform of movement among the universities of the region because it has a significant research potential. Its teaching staff, scientists, and students are enthusiastically engaged in research, developing popular projects, and are ready to share their knowledge and experience with young people.

To remind, The Movement of the First was formed by order of the Russian President Vladimir Putin. The main task of the association is to promote timely professional orientation of children in high school. You can join the Russian Movement of Children and Youth from the age of six.
