The qualification papers were defended by the rural teachers who participated in the project aimed to teach them the basic financial literacy. The staff members of the SSU Faculty of Economics implemented it. 50 teachers from the Perelyubskii District were the course attendees. The lessons were conducted in the school in the Smorodinka village.

In total, the course lasted from 2 December to 21 December. At first, the pedagogues were given lessons by the university staff, namely Dean of the faculty Elena V. Ogurtsova and Senior Lecturers of the Department of Economics Theory and National Economy Tatyana B. Obert and Tatyana L. Konovalova.

Then the course members studied online: they did different tests and wrote their qualification papers for three weeks.

On 21 December the teachers defended their theses devoted to a range of topics like the taxation, the advantages and risks of using bank cards, the budget and tax systems, the history of Russian banknotes, and other interesting aspects of the financial field.

‘It is very important that due to the courses like that pedagogues from distanced areas improve their professional skills and receive additional information about the financial literacy. I am glad this project is implemented by Saratov University,’ said Dean of the Faculty of Economics Elena V. Ogurtsova.

SSU conducted the course as it had won in the contest within the Educating Rural Teachers Financial Literacy, Its Teaching and Awareness Methodology project. Its moderator became the consortium of Southern Federal University and the International Financial Centre (the Institute of Continuing Professional Education).

The contest goal was to re-train teachers from the countryside within the course titled the Basic Financial Literacy, Its Teaching Methodology at School and Financial Awareness Methodology. The course lasted for 72 CPD hours, including the interim and final assessments.

Due to the grant we are able to implement not only the up-to-date course but the Strategy Development of Distanced Areas of the Saratov Region, which was initiated by Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav V. Volodin. SSU actively cooperates with the administration of distanced districts and school principals: due to the course on financial literacy for rural teachers we will develop our mutual work.
