At the end of March, at a government meeting, Governor of Saratov Region Roman Busargin announced the launch of the regional Rural Teachers project, which will be implemented together with the Land Teachers federal project. In April, deputies of the Saratov Regional Duma adopted amendments to the budget of the region, among which is the funding to resolve the personnel issue in schools.

As Deputy Prime Minister of Saratov Region, the Minister of Education of the region Mikhail Orlov said (in the recent live broadcast on the official page of Saratov Region in VKontakte). This year, the the Rural Teachers regional project is to begin on September 1. The ministry hopes that the project will be very interesting for teachers-to-be – SSU graduates.

By analogy with the Land Teachers federal project, novice teachers will be able to receive a one-time payment of 1 million roubles from the regional budget. There are no restrictions on its use, but there is an important condition – graduates must work in schools in remote areas for at least 5 years. Already this year, 15 quotas are given for the project.

According to the regional Minister of Education, 15 territories of Saratov Region have been chosen, where the shortage of teaching staff is most acute. The list includes Alexandrovo-Gai, Arkadak, Dergachi, Dukhovnitskoye, Ivanteyevka, Krasnopartizanskii, Novouzensk, Ozinki, Perelyub, Pugachev, Romanovka, Rtischevo, Samoylovka, Turki, and Khvalynsk Districts.

Mikhail Orlov marked the need to saturate the labour market in Saratov Region with teaching staff:

‘There is no such complex of motivating methods in any region of Volga Federal District. Due to the new project, it will be possible to give jobs up to 30 teachers per year to rural schools in Saratov Region – 15 “land teachers” and another 15 as part of the Rural Teachers project.’

Symbolically, on September 1, 2024, the newly established Pedagogical Institute, SSU, will open its doors to first-year students.

‘At Pedagogical Institute, we will try to do the main thing – to maintain a high level of training of subject students, form a teaching environment, and increase the motivation of applicants and students to work as teachers. The university has been given more than 400 state-funded places, including 150 for target students. We will do everything to ensure that they will become successful teachers,’ Rector of Saratov State University Alexei Chumachenko noted.
