SSU Students to Volunteer at XV World Championship in Fire and Rescue Sport
From 8 September to 16 September Saratov will host the XV World Championship in Fire and Rescue Sport. It will take place in Theatre Square and Locomotive Stadium. About 600 participants from different countries will come to Saratov. Students of Saratov University will take part in the championship as dancers, volunteers, and interpreters.
The Russian team has already come to the city. During the following two weeks the athletes will train at the stadium in hook ladder climbing, 100-metre obstacle course, fire relay race, and fire attack deployment. The anniversary championship will include the XV World Championship among Men, the VI Championship World among Women, the IX World among Youth and Juniors, and the V World Championship among Girls and Juniors in Fire and Rescue Sport.
More than 300 SSU students will participate in the official opening ceremony on 11 September. Every day they rehearse at Locomotive Stadium. Our students will take part in a few performances. A 1st-year student of the Faculty of Pedagogical and Special Needs Education Arina Puisho had found out that students would be invited to perform at the ceremony via the mass cultural council of her faculty. She will show a Russian traditional dance.
‘We rehearse for two and a half hours. I do not have any problems with it. It is very thrilling to become a part of such a big event,’ marked Arina.
International guests will be helped by students of the Institute of Philology and Journalism and the Faculty of Foreign Languages and Language Teaching Methods. The SSU Office of Student Educational Work and Youth Programmes had also assisted in finding volunteer. 70 interpreters have been preparing for the championship practising the languages and repeating the necessary vocabulary.
250 people will volunteer in the competition. They will help the moderators, work with the journalists, and coordinate the viewers at the stadium. Currently, Saratov University will be represented by 60 students, however, you can still apply to be a volunteer.
A 1st-year student of the Faculty of Law Ilya Poroshenko will volunteer as a journalist coordinator. He has already attended two trainings. There that group of volunteers found out about their duties and learned how to work in teams.
‘I hope I will practice my English at the championship and improve my skills. Also I would like to get acquainted with journalists as I am interested in this sphere. We are lucky that such a big event is held in Saratov because we do not have to go to Moscow or any other city and spend there a few days. I am waiting for September to start,’ shared his expectations about the championship Ilya Poroshenko.
If you want to become a volunteer, you should apply in the official group of the Youth Plus regional centre.
