On March 28 20 winners of the “UMNIK” Programme (the Russian abbreviation for “Member of the Youth Research and Innovation Competition”) were awarded in Saratov University. The contest was organised by the Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises in Science and Technology.
Students from 4 Saratov Universities – Saratov State University, Saratov State Vavilov Agrarian University, Yuri Gagarin State Technical University of Saratov, and Saratov State Medical University – received 500,000 rubles grants, so they can implement their research projects. Young inventors were congratulated by members of the foundation, administration of the universities, and their research supervisors.
A representative of the Foundation for Assistance to Small Innovative Enterprises in Science and Technology in the Saratov Region K.P. Murenin commented how to receive the won grants and hoped the foundation and universities would continue cooperating and bringing-up smart students. Then the winners were given diplomas.
After that they were congratulated by Chair of the SSU Department of Solid Body Physics, Honoured Scientist of the Russian Federation, Professor D.A. Usanov. He advised the winners to use the money properly and achieve new goals.
SSu Rector A.N. Chumachenko wished the students to be successful in research.
‘Work with each other as our four universities do. All of us try to make a breakthrough. Research discoveries are made not o9nly due to mutual work of different departments but universities as well. Get acquainted with each other in order to apply for a new grant next year. I wish you to gain new victories!’
The students took photographs with their diplomas and shared their project plans.
It should be noted that the contest finals took place in Saratov University within the All-Russian Research School-Seminar “Methods of Computerised Diagnostics in Biology and Medicine”. Three young scientists from SSU won in the “UMNIK”.
A master degree student of the Faculty of Nano- and Biomedical Technologies Aleksei Dzhafarov received the grant for developing laser autodyne to measure absolute distance with current wavelength modulation, his groupmate Ivan Volkov – for developing the device able to convert temperature skin dynamics into real-time fluctuations of blood flow. Another winner became Engineer of the Information Support University Laboratory Elizaveta Kondratyeva with the project on development of inverse-deformable metal-organic periodic textures to produce electronic equipment used in deep sea environment.
The “UMNIK” contest is held annually. This year it is planned to select new SSU participants during the Annual Student Conference in April.
