The Professor of the Year title of the national award in the Physics and Mathematics nomination has been given to Head of the Research and Medical Centre, SSU, Chair of the Department of Optics and Biophotonics, and Corresponding Member of the Russian Academy of Sciences Valerii Tuchin.
He leads the Technologies of Personalised Medicine strategic project as part of the Priority 2030 programme. The technologies developed by the research team under his leadership will allow monitoring oncological, infectious, and cardiovascular diseases in outpatient setting and at home, targeted delivery of medicine in the area of pathologies, restoring the reserve capabilities of the brain during sleep, and adjusting treatment to the individual characteristics of patients.
Valerii Tuchin is the winner of a series of prestigious international awards for innovative research in biophotonics (optics of biological tissues and optical clearing), publication of monographies and editorial work. He is recognised as a leading specialist in Russia and the world on this topic, is an honourary professor at a number of overseas universities. For many years, Valerii Tuchin has been successfully leading research and academic affairs in the courses in optics, laser physics, and biophotonics.
The scientific school created by the professor has been repeatedly supported by grants from the President of the Russian Federation, the Russian Ministry of Higher Education and Science, Russian Foundation for Basic Research, the Russian Academy of Sciences. Its staff has been awarded with the prize of the IAPC international publishing house for publishing different research papers, etc. The school is among the performers of mega grants, organises the Saratov Fall Meeting annual prestigious scientific conferences, and maintains numerous international relations.
Prof. Tuchin’s achievements are highly appreciated – he is among the most cited scientists in the world according to the Elsevier international scientific publishing house.
Valerii Tuchin is not only a talented scientist, but also an excellent professor, his is attentive to his students and colleagues. His scientific team annually becomes the owner of various grants and publishes articles in rating journals, continuing to contribute to the development of biophotonics.
The Professor of the Year national award was established by the Russian Professorial Assembly in order to preserve and further develop the scientific potential of Russian science and higher education, give impetus to scientific and technological development, and encourage outstanding researchers and teaching staff.
