SSU Students – Winners of All-Russian Championship in Competitive Programming
The Cup of the Future All-Russian Competitive Programming Championship has ended at Nizhny Novgorod State University. Young programmers from 22 Russian regions took part there. The teams from ten universities, including Saratov State University, were invited to the competition.
The participants solved tasks of varying degrees of complexity. The young geniuses showed their skills in algorithmic programming, as well as solved speed problems using coding. The goal of the competition is to solve tasks and launch the programme for ten hours.
Having coped with all the tasks, first place was taken by the SSU team consisting of Aleksei Shnirelman, Roman Brovko, and Ilya Lankin. The winners are studying at the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technologies and at the Programmers Olympiad Training Centre named after N.L. Andreyeva, too. The team is coached by the centre programmer Ivan Androsov.
The champions were awarded with a cup, gold medals, and certificates of the winners. Second place was taken by the team of the National University of Science and Technology MISIS (Moscow), third – by the teams of Voronezh State University and Petrozavodsk State University.
For the participants of the competitions and the team leaders, the Department of Informatisation of Tyumen Region organised the first business event in Russia – a panel discussion on competitive sports programming, as well as excursions at the Centre for Robotics and Automated Control Systems. At the Boiling Point – Tyumen, the students taking courses in programming and the representatives of Tyumen IT-companies discussed how young programmers could apply their skills in solving real tasks. The participants of the championship also witnessed the spectacular competitions – the Battle of Robots and Following the Line.
‘The Cup of the Future is an All-Russian competition of the Competitive Programming Federation. Since competitive programming is now officially recognised as sports in Russia, the team's victory in it in the future may affect the assignment of Candidate for Master of Sports (or maybe Master of Sports) in competitive programming to our students. The championship was attended by teams from many universities in Russia, including Nizhny Novgorod National University – the world champion in programming in 2020, some metropolitan universities (MISIS, Synergy). Therefore, our team had a hard time in the first half of the competition. But, fortunately, in the second half, they managed to break away from the others and confidently win. In addition, for our team, these competitions are part of the preparation for the finals of the World Programming Championship, which will be held in November in Sharm El Sheikh. So, this is also a test whether the team is ready for world-class competitions,’ the team coach said.
Established two years ago, this year, the Competitive Programming Federation of Russia has held a series of All-Russian algorithmic programming competitions in various cities. The SSU students took part in competitions in Voronezh, Tyumen, and Nizhny Novgorod.
The competitions are held as part of the Sport is the Norm of Life federal project of the Demography national project, approved by Russian President Vladimir Putin.
