On September 6, SSU Rector Chair of the Rectors’ Union of Saratov Region, Deputy Chair of the Rectors’ Union of Volga Federal District Aleksei Chumachenko took part in a meeting of the Rectors’ Union of Volga Federal District in Samara.
The meeting dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the foundation of the Rectors’ Union of Samara Region was held at the Vladimir Vysotsky Sports Centre. The central topic of the meeting was work with talented children and youth. The participants discussed promising developments and educational methods in this sphere. The Rectors’ Union of Volga Federal District was included into the programme of the Vector of Samara Science forum.
‘Our strategic goal is to combine the scientific developments of universities with the needs of industrial partners and specific industrial enterprises. This, in my opinion, is the key to effectively solving the tasks set by President Vladimir Putin to achieve Russia's technological sovereignty. Special attention is paid to working with talented children and youth in a school-university-enterprise chain. Undoubtedly, both our colleagues from the regions of Volga Federal District and overseas guests will share similar and the best practices. We will be glad to exchange experience and adopt all the best that exists in this area,’ Governor of Samara Region Dmitrii Azarov said at the meeting.
Chair of the Rectors’ Union of Volga Federal District Roman Strongin noted that a technological breakthrough was possible due to the development of the education system. New conditions require training not just engineers, but developers who will be able to solve the problem of import substitution. He noted that, today, fewer and fewer schoolchildren were showing interest in physics – the basic science for mastering technical specialties. In this regard, it was proposed that the rectors should appeal to the President of the Russian Academy of Sciences with a request to declare next year the Year of Physics and develop a programme to popularise this science.
‘It is not necessary to turn lyricists into physicists, but it is necessary to motivate those guys who could successfully pass exams in this subject, but for some reason chose other, possibly simpler options,’ Roman Strongin said and added that teachers should play a special role in this process.
