The main purpose of the Center's activities is research in the field of psychology, psychophysiology of healthy and impaired development, speech dysontogenesis, psychological and pedagogical support of families with children having special education needs; development, testing and verification of correctional and pedagogical tools for prevention and correction of deviations in the development and behavior of children and adolescents.

The main objectives of the Center are:

- carrying out fundamental and applied research in the field of psychology and psychophysiology of the development of children and adults, mental development of children with disabilities, children and adolescents experiencing learning and social adaptation difficulties, and psychological functioning patterns of a family with a special education needs child;

- carrying out fundamental and applied research of the patterns of communicative and speech development of children in different impaired development variants and socio-cultural environment conditions, as well as on the study of methods of identifying, preventing and correcting communicative and speech development disorders;

- carrying out applied scientific research in the field of development of new content, methods and innovative technologies for correctional and pedagogical influence.

When achieving the objectives, the Center relies on the priority principles of the interests of children and adolescents having special education needs, their parents and legal representatives: respectful treatment, protection of dignity, physical integrity, privacy of correspondence and telephone conversations, protection of personal data, integrated and systematic approach to research with compliance to ethical standards.

When achieving the objectives, the Center performs the following functions:

- research function: carrying out scientific research in the field of psychology of healthy and impaired development, psychological and pedagogical support of children having special education needs and members of their families;

- informational and educational function: creation and maintenance of information resources (a website), preparation of analytical materials based on the results of research carried out in the Center, and generalization of domestic and foreign experience;

- advisory and methodological function: implementation of advisory activities, development of recommendations in accordance with the areas of the Center’s activities;

- organizational function: organization of seminars, panel discussions, lectures or other scientific and educational events, which are corresponding to the purpose and objectives of the Center, as well as training, cultural and leisure activities in Saratov and Saratov Oblast.
