SSU hosted the VIII International Week of Science and Peace dedicated to the 110th university anniversary. The opening ceremony took place on 11 November in the International Office, Bldg. XVIII.

The members were welcomed by Vice-Rector for International Affairs Dmitrii N. Konakov, Vice-Rector for Research Work Aleksei A. Koronovskii, Director of the Instiute of Philology and Journalism Lyudmila S. Borisova, Dean of the Faculty of Sociology Sergei G. Ivchenkov, Dean of the Faculty of Economics Elena V. Ogurtsova, and Director of the Institute of Pre-University Education Tatyana G. Zakharova.

They hoped that students would work productively at the UN Model, the master-class titled the Society Digitalisation: Social and Economic Aspects, and the Days of Germany Team Presentation Project Festival. The final event of the Week of Science and Peace will become the V All-Russia On- and Off-Site Research-to-Practice Conference of Students-ORF Grant Winners titled the Science and Society: Issues of Modern Liberal Arts Research.

This year the UN Model will consist of 5 councils: the United Nations Security Council, the United Nations Human Rights Council, the United Nations Office of Counter-Terrorism, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, and the Journalism Section. When the event was held for the first time, it included only two sections.

Dmitrii Konakov marked that the traditional SSU UN Model organised at the beginning of the Week is supposed to be one of the best in Russia considering student reports.

The event is held in November because a series of important days are commemorated in this month, namely International Day against Fascism and Antisemitism, World Science Day, World Youth Day, and Sociologist Day.
