Vladimir Makarov’s Anniversary: Read Interview Your Life Should Be Well-Managed, Fast, and Diverse
Dean of the Faculty of Geography, Chair of the Department of Physical Geography and Landscape Ecology, SSU, Chair of the Saratov regional branch of the Russian Geographical Society, Doctor of Geographical Sciences, Professor Vladimir Makarov has celebrated his 80th birthday. In honour of the anniversary, an interview with him entitled Your Life Should Be Well-Managed, Fast, and Diverse was posted in the Research City section.
Vladimir Makarov is the heading and implementing more than 50 grant projects and contracts. His research is in demand and widely used in various industries. He is the author of more than 250 research papers and the winner of the Height prestigious regional award.
In the interview, Vladimir Makarov commented how fate connected him with Saratov State University and the study of geography.
‘Since childhood, after reading the books of Mayne Reed, Fenimore Cooper, Jules Verne, and later Jack London's stories about the adventures in Alaska, the thought firmly stuck in my head, ‘We need to travel, walk on Earth to see the world.’ I did this after graduating from the Faculty of Geography, having visited almost all mountainous regions of the USSR, leading student internships. Later, I have visited almost all European countries, many Asian countries, have been in the USA, in some African countries as a tourist and in terms of the grants from various organisations. I consider choosing a geographical direction to be my best decision in life,’ the dean of the Faculty of Geography in Saratov emphasised.
