An interview with SSU rector Aleksei Chumachenko was published on the RIA Novosti website. He commented how modern universities are working in a rapidly changing economic situation and training specialists who meet the demands of the labour market.

‘There is a serious shortage of teachers now. Not only in our region, but in Russia. In recent years, we have been making significant efforts to solve this particular problem. Another important shortage is specialists in the electronic and chemical industries. We help solve these problems together with our partners. We have corporate departments, a student design office. Employers meet with graduates, give lectures, conduct training and internships. The Priority 2030 programme make a significant impact on our work. We realised that the main message of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education is the need to change,’ Aleksei Chumachenko explained.

The rector drew attention to the most popular areas among applicants. These are primarily IT, information systems, and technologies, software engineering, as well as advertising and public relations, political science, law, as well as fundamental and applied linguistics.

According to Aleksei Chumachenko, overseas enrollees are still interested in our university. Thus, students from Central Asian countries are studying at SSU – Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, there are also applicants from the People's Republic of China, Iraq, Azerbaijan, Colombia, Peru, and Africa.
