4th Russian as a Foreign Language in SSU Festival Started in Saratov State University

The opening of the 4th Russian as a Foreign Language in SSU Festival has taken place in Bldg.10, Saratov State University. Traditionally, the forum was organised by the Institute of Philology and Journalism, the Department of Russian Language, Speech Communication, and Russian as a Foreign Language, as well as the SSU Office of International Affairs.

The conference hall was attended by teachers from Saratov universities - SSMU named after V.I. Razumovsky, SGK named after L.V. Sobinov, Gagarin State Technical University named after Yu.A., Vavilov University, as well as representatives of the Institute of Pre–University Education and the Geological College of SSU. Russian Russian translation was joined by colleagues from the RUDN Institute of the Russian Language (Moscow), the Zlatoust Educational and Publishing Center (St. Petersburg), the Institute of the Russian Language of the Xi'an University of Foreign Languages (PRC), Ankara University and Ordu University (Turkey), Kufa University (Iraq), the International Cultural Institute "Key". (Czech Republic), the international school "Interdom" named after E.D. Stasova (Uzbekistan), RCT teachers from Slovakia and Germany.

Director of the Institute of Philology and Journalism Lyudmila Borisova made a welcoming speech to the audience. Russian Russian is a foreign language, she told about the history of the annual festival "RCU in SSU", as well as about the unifying power of the Russian language: "The love of the Russian language and culture unites foreign students and teachers of Russian as a foreign language, it becomes a link, a fulcrum, a kind of key to mutual understanding and mutual respect. The geography of our festival is expanding every year. And we are glad to see colleagues from the People's Republic of China, Turkey, Iraq, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany and Uzbekistan among us."

Vice-Rector for International Affairs Dmitrii Konakov also addressed the audience: "Five years ago, when we were just starting to think about the future of the festival, it was decided that it would become traditional. However, making a decision is one thing, it's another to see what comes out of it. I am very glad and proud to say that everything planned today is coming to life. Evidence of this is the active participation of all universities of the Saratov region and a large number of connected colleagues from both Russia and abroad." Dmitry Nikolaevich conveyed parting words from the rector of SSU, Professor A.N. Chumachenko and wished the participants of the festival interesting discussions.

Director of the Institute of the Russian Language of Xi'an University of Foreign Languages Huang Dayuan in a video message told about the interaction of his university with Saratov University, about the return visit of the SSU delegation to Xi'an city, as well as about the holding of the second tournament "Friendship Cup". "The exchange of delegations gave our students the opportunity to communicate more closely with each other and sowed the seeds of friendship between our universities. Communication with their peers from SSU in Russian made it possible to quickly understand the traditions, customs and culture of the two countries and peoples. The language has become a bridge for strengthening friendship and mutual understanding between the young people of our countries," Huang Dayuan stressed.

Russian Russian Language and Literature Dean of the Institute of Foreign Languages of Suzhou University Zi Xiaojun, Associate Professor of the Department of Russian Language and Literature of the Faculty of Languages, History and Geography of Ankara University Zulfiya Shahin, Associate Professor of Ordu University Hassan Mutlu and Associate Professor of Kufa University Mohammed Abd Ali Hussein Al Kazzaz also addressed the participants of the festival.

After the opening of the festival "RCU in SSU", the work of the round table "The Russian language in the refraction of cultures" began. Russian Russian as a Foreign Language was moderated by Tatyana Milekhina, Professor of the Department of Russian Language, Speech Communication, and Russian as a Foreign Language.

Russian Language Teaching through the comprehension of Russian culture, through its contact with the culture of the peoples of the world, is the most important topic of the round table this year. The Russian language is not only a rich vocabulary and a phenomenally complex grammar, it is a special humanistic view of the world, as well as the cultural code of the people, which is based on respect for the cultural diversity of the peoples of the world," Tatiana Alekseevna announced.

According to the established tradition, Chair of the Department of Literary Studies and Journalism, scientific supervisor of the Institute of Philology and Journalism Valerii Prozorov made the title report. Valery Vladimirovich shared his experience of communicating with Chinese undergraduates in the framework of the online classes "Expressive reading in the lessons of the RCT".

"I introduced students from China to the peaks of Russian lyrical poetry and at the same time set myself the task of dedicating them to the basics of the culture of expressive reading. Since the poetic text of any national culture has its own amazing acoustics, we learned to recreate the emotions and feelings captured in the texts through the voice. I also promised the students that the course would expand their intonation-melodic capabilities. The approach I have chosen has brought tangible results," Valery Vladimirovich noted.

Having connected to the online platform of the festival, the chairman of the Board of the International Cultural Institute "Klyuch" A.A. Evsina read a report on "Topical issues of preservation and support of the Russian language as a foreign language in the Czech Republic and other countries".

The head of the Department of Russian and Latin Languages of the V.I. Razumovsky SSMU L.P. Prokofiev told about the specifics of studying the phenomenon of bilingualism, its types and forms.

Chair of the Department of Russian, Speech Communication, and Russian as a Foreign Language Alla Baikulova presented a report on the topic "Discoveries at the crossroads of languages and cultures: the possibilities of using borrowed vocabulary". Russian Russian includes 316 words of Arabic origin, 44 of them Arabism: giraffe, amulet, talisman, tare, veil, coffee and others – are included in the lexical core of the Russian language, 5 words: admiral, cafe, lemon, shop and robe – are in the latest universal dictionary, and 7 words: arba, arsenal and others are listed in the Dictionary of the riches of the Russian language.

Employees of the Educational and Publishing Center "Zlatoust" told about video courses on Russian history and culture for foreign students, about the implementation of the cultural component in the lessons of the RCT on the example of the course "Journey through the cities of Russia", presented new textbooks and workbooks on RCT.

Russian Russian, Speech Communication and Russian as a Foreign Language Professor Olga Myaksheva presented the book "Turti–Khutor lights the stars". Its author is a Chechen writer and teacher A.S. Dzhunaidov, who has devoted more than 40 years to teaching.

A graduate of SSU, a participant in the project "Russian Teacher abroad" O.L. Tsareva, contacted from Uzbekistan, read a report in which she considered examples of the use of the Russian language in Uzbekistan and its popularization among the population.

Associate Professor of the Department of Humanities of the L.V. Sobinov State University E.A. Alekseeva told about the peculiarities of teaching Russian in multinational groups.

The festival program continued with the work of the methodological laboratory "Successful practices in teaching RCT". The moderator of the laboratory was Professor A.N. Baykulova.

Within the laboratory, participants from Saratov, Moscow, Izhevsk, as well as Slovakia and Germany presented their unique developments. The main topic of the reports was the search for adaptive programs for foreign students, the Internet resources that the RCT teacher can use were named. Saratov State University was represented by Professor of the Department of Russian and World Literature Gulnara Altynbayeva who highlighted the linguistic and cultural aspect in the practice of teaching the Russian Language, Assistant of the Department of Russian Language, Speech Communication and Russian as a Foreign Language Elena Malashenkova who revealed the topic of learning through entertainment using mobile applications, and Assistant of the same department Alina Titenko, who told about the excursion as a way of forming the socio-cultural competence of students.

At the end of the first day of the forum, Tan Han, head of the Chinese-Russian Center for Humanitarian Relations and Cooperation of the Institute of the Russian Language of the Xi'an University of Foreign Languages, expressed warm words of gratitude to the organizers, stressing that the festival "RCU at SSU" is another link in strengthening cultural, educational and scientific ties between Xi'an and Saratov Universities.
