On 26 October there was opened the multifunctional open sport ground in the dormitory campus. The event was attended by students, members of the academic staff, sport veterans, and representatives of the regional sport community. The ceremony members and guests were welcomed by Deputy of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Nickolas V. Pankov and Head of the Office of Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav V. Volodin in Saratov, Deputy of the Saratov Region Duma Tatyana P. Yerokhina.

‘For the last two years there have been opened 12 sport complexes like that, according to the charity project of Chairman of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin. And yours have become the thirteenth one. The students asked to re-arrange the dormitory campus yard, they addressed to the Speaker of the State Duma, and he supported that idea. Here the dormitories of many regional universities are located, and almost 1,500 students live in them. The new complex will help make the campus more modern,’ underlined Nickolas Pankov.

Moreover, he expressed his gratitude to the sport veterans and coaches who has always encouraged their students to love sport and competitions and strive for the victory.

‘We have the stimuli to develop when we see the grounds built within the charity project of Vyacheslav Volodin. And there is not only the ground in the dormitory campus now. The pavements have been reconstructed, new trees have been planted and old ones have been cut down. Besides, the dormitories are being reconstructed,’ marked Tatyana P. Yerokhina.

Following the plan the new sport complex was opened in October. It was built within the charity project of Chairman of the State Duma of the Russian Federation Vyacheslav V. Volodin. IN August he visited the dormitory campus in the Leninskii District and inspected the territory where the ground was to be built near the SSU and SSEI dormitories. In addition, Vyacheslav Volodin met with the students and discussed the sport complex project. Their suggestions were taken into consideration. The modern multifunctional sport complex was built for two months, and it meets the requirements of young people, the students from Saratov State University, Saratov State Academy of Law, Saratov State Vavilov Agrarian University, and Saratov Socio-Economic Institute who live in the dormitories.

The ceremony was hosted by a master student of the SSU Faculty of Law Aleksei Karev. At first, he called over the teams of different universities at the ground. The youth cried chants and tried to represent their university in a more unusual way.  Thus, the SSU students were wearing red T-shirts. Then after the drawing the teams of Saratov State Academy of Law and Saratov Socio-Economic Institute played five-a-side football, and the latter became the best. The footballers noted that the pitch turf was very good, and there was built the fence around it so the ball did not roll to the road. What is more, the students can play basketball, volleyball, and tennis as well as hockey in winter. Near the pitch they can do calisthenics or play table tennis. They will be able to do sports even in the evening because there are streetlights around the ground.

A 2nd-year student pf the SSU Faculty of Economics Alina Lukyanova shared her impressions about the sport ground.

‘Both the opening ceremony and the ground quality are very good. And our suggestions and initiatives were considered. Thanks a lot to Vyacheslav Volodin. It is especially important to me. I have been playing football for three years, and now other students and I can play football at the pitch! And we can play volleyball tomorrow even. We can enjoy doing the exercises here.’

In the event moderators’ opinion, the sport ground will be used by not only the students who live here but the city citizens as well. Interuniversity championship will be held and youth will be engaged in sport here.

The members of the academic staff, the sport veterans, also attended the ceremony. One of them was Vladimir N. Chinilov, Master of Sports of Russia in unarmed self-defence, Master of Sports of Russia in judo, World-Class Judo Athlete among Veterans, Honoured Physical Educator of Russia, Professor of the SSU Department of Sport and Physical Education.

‘We have put our finger on the crux. Firstly, the location is very convenient because the young people can use any minute to do sports at the ground nearby. They have an opportunity to jog and play football, volleyball, or basketball in the safe and comfort environment. Secondly, I am astonished by the high quality turf and modern equipment. Thirdly, the platform is suitable for five-a-side championship. It can be used for the Student Dormitory Spartakiade. I can’t help but being happy to see new objects of a really good quality. All of us are surprised by the calisthenics athletes. Surely, many people will be interested in this sport because you will be able to control your body better and push your boundaries after it, and the athletes have proved it today.’

Then the ceremony participants and guests were welcomed by a sport veteran, Professor of the SSVAU Department of Sport and Physical Education Victor A. Tarasov.

Later the students continued hitting Ready for Labour and Defence qualifying standards, playing football. In addition, many viewers gathered to watch the calisthenics exercises.

The new multifunctional sport ground will help develop youth sport in the region and the SSU sport infrastructure in particular. The students are supposed to achieve more in sport, develop amateur sport, and keep a healthy lifestyle. Besides, due to it the dormitory students will have an opportunity to get a new sport hobby, and the student community will become more united.
