The Summer Sports and Recreation University Camp Spartakiad was opened in “Chardym” on August 11th. The participants took part in six main sports: Ready for Labor and Defence (RfLaD), beach volleyball, table tennis, track and field athletics, catamaran races, and minifootball.
At the awards ceremony which accompanied the opening of the event Saratov State University received the second prize in the 2016-2017 Saratov Regional Universiade and the first prize in the 2017 Saratov Health Spartakiad among the academic staff.
Temporarily Appointed Governor of Saratov Region V.V. Radayev awarded the associate professor of SSU Department of Sport and Physical Education I.V. Petelin for his major contribution to the development of student sport in the region.
The representatives of the following leading regional universities were present at the official opening ceremony: Saratov State University (SSU), Saratov State Medical University (SSMU), Saratov State Academy of Law (SSAoL), Saratov State Vavilov Agrarian University (SSVAU), Saratov State Technical University (SSTU), and Saratov Socio-Economic Institute (SSEI).
Senior Deputy Minister for Sports, Tourism and Youth Policy of the region A.V. Kozlov delivered the opening speech. SSU Vice-Rector for Secondary Vocational Education and Social Work O.E. Nesterova also wished the participants good luck.
After the awards ceremony young acrobats from the sports school “The Province Hope” and The Saratov Regional Workout Team gave sports and concerted performances. SSVAU students Damir Zyainitdinov and Yulia Belomestnova sang to support the competition spirit.
SSU students demonstrated fighting spirit, winning mindset, and showed high results in the Spartakiad.
SSU minifootball team gained the lead having outplayed SSVAU and SSAoL ones. The SSU team consisted of the 1st year students of Faculty of Geology Andrei Ayatov and Artem Ayatov, the 2nd year student of the Institute of Sports and Physical Training Evgeni Kucherenko, the 3rd year student of the Institute of Sports and Physical Training Sergei Sukhostatov, the 3rd year student of the Faculty of Geography Nerses Pogosyan, the 3rd year student of the Faculty of Geology Alexander Abramyan, and the 3rd year student of the Faculty of Sociology Alexei Klyukin. All the players had been training nearly ten years, and they had practiced before the Spartakiad really hard under the command of their coach Evgeni Korolyov.
SSU track and field athletics team also showed the best results. It was presented by the 2nd year student of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technologies Daria Leushkina, the 1st year student of the Faculty of Law Anastasia Berdnikova, the graduate student of the Faculty of Nonlinear Processes Georgii Stetsyur-Mova, and the 3rd year student of the Faculty of Pedagogical and Special Needs Education Anna Tarasova. Daria Leushkina had been training for almost eight years, and she was almost sure they would win because the team was very close-knit.
The 3rd year student of the Faculty of Geography Lavura Galayan and the 1st year student of the Faculty of Geography Aigogdy Nazarov took the second position in the table tennis competition. The SSU catamaran team showed the same result in the races.
