Total Dictation, an event promoting Russian language and literacy, took place in SSU Bldg. XI and XII on April 16. This year, 363 people registered to check their knowledge of Russian language.

Project coordinators in Saratov University were Aleksandra Diakova, Anastacia Levko and Sviatoslav Zheltov. SSU Students and Graduate Student Council and Office of Educational Work supported the event. The registration was officially opened one and a half hour before the dictation. Students from SSU volunteer center “Dobrovolets” managed the preparations and directed participants to their rooms.

Time before the Total Dictation flew fast. The participants enjoyed interesting competitions and lotteries from SSU partners; student magazine “SGUshenka” (Sweet Milk) photographers and “I Like It” project production team also worked in the buildings. Additionally, the University joined the project “Russian Language-24” and started working with Russian Reporter magazine. Journalists Polina Novomlinova, Marina Grushina, valentine Luchkina, Dania Vergazova watched the event in Bldg. XI. They gathered the material at the main SSU platform and sent interesting notes to the general project newsline.

Total Dictation started at 3 pm. The participants watched a presentation prepared by the dictation organization center in Novosibirsk about the event details: how to fill in the forms, reading stages, checking criteria. Russian language knowledge test was based on excerpts from the book “This Ancient-Ancient-Ancient World” by Andrei Usachev. In the European part of Russia the participants wrote the third part “Short History of the Olympic Games”. The readers tried to help the participants by reading the text clearly and loudly.

In an hour all the works were handed in. the participants could meet with famous readers, ask them questions, take photos and get autographs. Everyone got a certificate of participation, discounts from SSU partners and issues of “SGUshenka” magazine and “Saratov University” newspaper.
