Today, on 1 September, SSU gathered all first-year students for the celebratory assembly at the Students’ square.
University administration and honored guests came to meet and congratulate new students. Among them were SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko, President L.Yu. Kossovich, vice-rectors, deans and directors. Chief Federal Inspector in Saratov Region M.V. Aleshina, deputy chair of Saratov Region Administration P.V. Bolshedanov, deputy of Saratov region Duma A.V. Losina, and rector of Cyril and Methodius church Cyril Krasnoshiekov were the guests.
Vice-rector for educational and social work I.G. Malinski addressed the students and congratulated them on the beginning of new academic year. He wished them success and productive work at the university.
Traditionally the assembly started with rising up the flags of Russian Federation, Saratov Region and Saratov State University. This time it was done by Prof. D.A. Usanov, graduate student Aleksey Ermakov and student teams’ leader Irina Shustova.
Then SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko took the floor. “I believe that for most first-year students the university will become a very important, crucial place. Great scientists used all their forces and knowledge to make SSU on of the best universities in Russia. You are lucky because you are going to learn from outstanding professors, great teachers, known all around the world. You have the opportunity to study in labs fully equipped with cutting-edge technology. This morning is a start of your achievements and victories”, says A.N. Chumachenko.
I.G. Malinski reminded the party that this academic year is very important for Saratov State University. The university is turning 105 years old; also it is the 70th anniversary of the Great Patriotic War victory. As tradition demands, the assembled party offered flowers to Chernyshevskiy monument and to War memorial.
After that the Chief Federal Inspector in Saratov Region, Chair of the Board of Trustees M.V. Aleshina addressed the students saying that SSU has all facilities for successful and productive research and study. On behalf of Saratov region Governor and regional Administration P.V. Bolshedanov congratulated the students reminding them that SSU works closely with many leading research centers in Russia and provides them with highly valued human resources.
Saratov Region Duma deputy A.V. Losina quoted Russian philologist D.S. Likhachev and wished the students to keep their culture and the culture of classic university.
Rector of Cyril and Methodius church Cyril Krasnoshiekov also addressed the new students. He said university years lay the foundation for moral values and personal priorities. He wished teachers and professors to find not only good students but true pupils whose achievements they would be proud of.
Then Faculty of Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technologies Dean A.G. Fedorova took the floor. She advised the students to take every chance to build the future and contribute to the development of Russia.
Another tradition is to give symbolical student ID and record book. Nikita Karpov and Anastasia Minasian, students of Faculty if Sociology and Institute of Philology and Journalism, received their first university documents from SSU Rector A.N. Chumachenko.
Between the speeches Student Club artists and activists presented their show.
The celebratory assembly ended with Chair of SSU undergraduate and graduate student club Georgy Bolotov suggesting students take part in a dance flashmob at the Students’ square. Also everyone could make a photo with SSU banner at the background.
