In 1964, Polianskaia, E.A. graduated SSU Faculty of Geography in Meteorology and started working as a senior lab assistant at the Department of Meteorology and Climatology. Then in 1966-1969 she worked as an assistant, in 1969-1971 as a senior teacher, in 1971 -1997 as an associate professor. In March 1997, Polianskaia, E.A. received the title of Professor at the Department. In 1988 she was elected Dean of the Faculty of Geography. Today she works as a Professor of SSU Department of Meteorology and Climatology.
Polianskaia, E.A. has developed 4 courses: Space Study Methods in Meteorology, Geophysics, Regional Synoptics, Tropical Meteorology.
Research interests of Polianskaia, E.A.concerns synoptic climatology and regional synoptics. Since 1998, she has lead the work on RF Ministry of Education projects “Russian Universities – Fundamental Research”, “Russian Universities”, “Basic Research in Natural and Exact Science”.
Prof. Polianskaia, E.A. has published 137 scientific works.
Polianskaia, E.A. helps the Department Chair and takes an active part in the faculty’s public life. She has been editorial secretary of Collected Works “Issues of Climate and Weather in the Lower Volga Region”, member of the editorial board of the Faculty of Geography, academic secretary of the Faculty of Geography, member of the Council on Geographical Sciences. She was a member of Education Review Office Council in hydrometeorology. Polianskaia, E.A. was awarded a Certificate of Merit from the RF State Committee in Higher Education in 1996, received a Letter of Acknowledgement from the Ministry of General and Professional Education.
