President of Russia V.V. Putin visited exhibition and presentation of the Foundation for Prospective Studies at OJSC “Instrument Engineering Design Bureau” in Tula. SSU presented its project on nonwoven polymer nanofiber fabric. This innovation is a part of complex megaproject “Defender of the Future”.
After visiting the exhibition the President held a meeting dedicated to the Foundation prospective work. The main issue was the discussion of the Foundation for Prospective Studies innovative work. V.V. Putin said the Foundation should serve as a technological lift for defense industry innovations and guarantee their quick implementation in production process; it should also take the economic risks involved in research as its results are not always clear.
One of the projects supported by the Foundation for Prospective Studies is a laboratory based at SSU Innovation and Technology Center “Prospective Materials”. Project group heads S.M. Alekseev and A.L. Kovtun were present at the Opening ceremony on December 24, 2013. They announced their intention to cooperate with Saratov State University. Presenting SSU innovations to the President has confirmed these intentions.
Saratov region Governor V.V. Radaev accounted for the importance of this cooperation: “We have to reach a higher level of production, up to working with Ministry of Defense”.
“After SSU had got National Research University status, the project funding concentrated on creating three Innovation centers: radio electronics, metalwork and nonwoven materials”, said “Prospective Materials” Center scientific advisor, SSU President L.Yu. Kossovich. “There innovations go all the way from fundamental research to making prototypes to production. The Centers also serve as a training facility for young specialists”.
SSU President L.Yu. Kossovich is the head of university innovation work. Under his leadership the University has chosen its own innovation center development strategy. This strategy, aimed at forming research clusters, allows to unite the university educational potential and its innovation centers’ resources with facilities of large regional companies in three major areas: electronics, new materials and information technologies. These areas have been successfully developing. Nonwoven polymer nanofiber fabric presented at the exhibition is one of many Saratov State University innovations.
The Foundation for Prospective Studies was founded in October 2012. President V.V. Putin asked the Government to support the development of high-risk research and fundamental science innovations and implementation of applied research programs. The Foundation for Prospective Studies helps to achieve these goals.
