On August 15, the teaching staff and students of the Institute of History and International Relations, SSU, celebrate Archaeologist Day. And they do it in the next expedition.

This year, our historians are going to Krasnoarmeiskii District – this is part of the scientific plan of the Institute of Archaeology and Cultural Heritage, SSU. The venue between the villages of Zolotoye and Trubino is subject to exploration – a very interesting, but little-studied place due to the complex landscape with steep 20-meter cliffs framing the Volga coast.

An article dedicated to the professional holiday of archaeologists has been published in the Research City section. In it, two “pillars” of the Saratov State University scientific school – ancient archaeology and regional archaeology of the Volga Region – Sergei Monakhov and Vladimir Lopatin commented on the history and traditions of this day.

In the article, they shared different versions of the holiday, the research interests of the archaeologists of Saratov State University, and discussed their expeditions.

The university archaeology has its own peculiarities, because it includes not only an explicit scientific emphasis, but also a teaching component. There is an education-to-archaeology internship in the course on history. The unique exhibits found during field work are exhibited in museums.

Read about what archaeologists are looking for on the banks of the Bear in Atkarskii District, in the North-Western Crimea, in the Kuban, on the shore of the Taman Bay, and other territories in the Probing Field article.
