Doctoral Degree Postgraduate Included into Short-List of For Loyalty to Science Award

A doctoral degree postgraduate of the Faculty of Philosophy, SSU, Zhanna Andriyevskaya has been included into the short-list of the 8th For Loyalty to Science All-Russian Award in the Special Prize named after Daniil Granin nomination for a series of books – Amazing Russia.

Zhanna Andriyevskaya is a Russian writer, public figure, and author of research papers on national identity. In 2021, she became the winner of the 2nd All-Russian Public Award for personal contribution to the ethno-cultural development and strengthening of the unity of the peoples of Russia – The Pride of the Nation – in the For Contribution to the Information Support of the State National Policy nomination.

In the Amazing Russia series of books based on Andriyevskaya’s research, facts about Russian traditions are collected – from the ancient times to the beginning of the 20th century. The books are devoted to various topics: national arts and crafts, the history of the Rurik dynasty, the construction of the Russian hut, calendar holidays, and Russian folklore.

‘I am convinced that it is necessary to revive and preserve the identity of the national culture. This is extremely important for strengthening national consciousness, for understanding the future of our great country,’ Zhanna Andriyevskaya said.

Supervised by Chair of the Department of Theology and Religious Studies, the Faculty of Philosophy, SSU, Mikhail Orlov Zhanna Andriyevskaya is writing her doctoral dissertation titled The symbolic programmes of social thinking in a risk society.

‘As a researcher Ulrich Beck noted, the modern society lives in risky times, it is unstable and non-linear. In a society of this type, it is important to maintain the integrity and stability of a person's thinking. I am introducing and developing the concept of a symbolic programme that can provide such stability,’ she marked.

To remind, the For Loyalty to Science award was established in 2015. Since this year, it has been awarded as part of the Decade of Science and Technology. The organiser of the award is the Russian Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

The participants of the award are journalists, popularisers of science, researchers, and businessmen who have made a significant contribution to supporting the prestige of Russian science and popularisation of domestic scientific achievements. The winners will receive a cash reward and special prizes from the contest partners. This year, the prize fund will amount to 2,6 million rubles.
