There were announced the results of the Vladimir Potanin Fellowship Program for students and master degree courses professors.

Master degree students from 75 leading Russian universities participated in the 2018/2019 program. In total, 6,286 students applied for the contest, 3,324 of them were chosen after the first round, 1,998 master degree students were selected after the second round, and, finally, 500 of them became the winners.

Five students from Saratov University were among the best participants: a 1st-year master degree student of the Faculty of Psychology Ekaterina Botvinenko, a 1st-year master degree student of the Institute of Philology and Journalism Ekaterina Izmailova and Elena Rogozhina, a 2nd-year master degree student of the Faculty of Nonlinear Processes Anastasia Plotnikova (Kolosova), a 1st-year master degree student of the Faculty of Nonlinear Processes Natalia Preobrazhenskaya. A 1st-year master degree student of the Faculty of Geography Maksim Larionov was included into the reserve list.

The most popular spheres-winners this year were computer technology and data security (6,8%), economics (6%), law (5,2%), and physics (5%), while the most rare spheres became agricultural engineering (0,2%) and environmental engineering (0,2%).

The fellowship winners will be paid 20,000 rubles every month from February till the graduation from master degree courses.

Natalia Preobrazhenskaya shared her impressions on participation in the contest.

‘At the off-site round we had to write many essays on leadership, commented why the contest is important for us, and present the popular scientific essay on their master degree thesis. The last task appeared to be the most difficult for me because I study microwave processes in SHF devices. Nevertheless, I was one of 2000 students chosen to take part in special games of the on-site round. I thought I was already a winner then. At the second round we took part in 8 special games aimed at different leadership aspects, and I enjoyed them. Surely, once I decided that I would not win the contest, for example, after the discussion part where the competitors had either support the government or Sergei Mavrodi, and the task became chaotic as its members shouted phrases off the topic. I felt very proud to become one of the 500 winners. You will be able to achieve many goals thanks to the Vladimir Potanin Foundation because talented fellowship owners are supported by the foundation even after the contest.’

According to the contest results for master degree professors, 100 people were announced as its winners.

The staff of the Department of Political Sciences headed by its Chair, Professor A.A. Vilkov gained the victory in the New Master Degree Curriculum nomination. The group consisted of Professor N.I. Shestov, Associate Professors A.A. Kazakov, V.G. Semyenova, and D.V. Poponov. They will develop the master degree course in political potential of civil society organisations as subjects of public diplomacy in border regions. Its goal is to teach students how to apply theoretical and methodological approaches in modern public diplomacy and give the profound knowledge about public diplomacy infrastructure and its tools in different spheres of public life.

Due to the project the ‘public diplomats’ will study in regional universities, the course attendees learn about management methods in that field, and the regional society will get more information about public diplomacy.

Chair of the SSU Department of Civil Law and Process E.N. Toguzayeva became one of the winners in the New Course nomination, the most popular one this year. In the chair’s opinion, it is necessary to develop and teach the course in propaganda in information society (legal aspect). With the help of the course students will focus on variability of laws and their types consolidating positive propaganda and forbidding destructive propaganda. The new course students will learn about propaganda and liability for it in details because there is no legal definition in the Russian legislation.
