Saratov State University team won the international student Olympiad “Entrepreneurship and management”. The competition took place in St. Petersburg State University of Economics on October 20-25.

Faculty of Mathematics and Mechanics students Veronika Barabash, Anna Lokhmotova and Evgeniy Sergeev competed with the best university teams from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Severodvinsk, Tyumen, Chelyabinsk and universities of Belgium, Germany and Check Republic.

The Opympiad worked in 15 sections using Russian and English as their working languages. The competition had three parts: first - a test; second – a business game; third – presenting the research results on a specific topic. After a difficult competition SSU team won the first place in “Information Systems and Technologies in Economics”.

The business game evaluated quality work automation of a chosen organization. The participants had to define its mission, analyze financial and economic performance, find out problems and find an information system to solve them.

The students could choose an information system from the leading manufacturers of recommend to develop a company-oriented system (using their own resources or a third party). “Suggesting a generic solution is a safe choice, but it is a bit boring, you couldn’t get additional point for “innovations”. You could successfully present your own variant, but you have to be ready for difficult questions ranging from information models to algorithms”, said SSU team members. Saratov University team lead by Veronika Barabash chose a tourist agency as a subject of automation evaluation and successfully came through all the pitfalls leaving their competitors far behind.

SSU students also showed good results in the individual competition on theoretical knowledge of information systems development and information management. They came third only after Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics and St. Petersburg State University of Economics.

Saratov State University has taken part in the Olympiad since 2009 getting prizes and confirming its status of the National Research University. Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Informatics R.V. Amelin coaches the team in “New Information Technologies” Center.
