Ministry of Science and Education has announced the winners of the 4th Russian Federation Open Award for government support of scientific research projects implemented by the world’s leading scientists at Russian institutions of higher education.
The competition attracted 503 representatives from more than 40 countries. The winners are from Russia, Germany, Italy, the USA, France, the Netherlands, The UK, Greece, Mexico, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden, and Japan.
All applications were evaluated against three criteria: leading scientist’s work experience and scientific achievements; research project prospects; project organization current state and development prospects.
Russian government awards several 90 million grants for 3 years of research (with possibility of 2 years extension). Attraction and use of extra-budgetary funds in the amount of at least 25% of grant volume is required.
SSU is the only winner in Saratov Region. Prof. Sukhorukov form Queen Mary University of London will take part in the project. Together with Saratov University scientists he will work on the project entitled “Remote-controlled nanostructural systems for targeted drug delivery and diagnostics”.
Prof . Gorin, vice-director of Education and research institute of nanostructures and biosystems, supervises the project in SSU. Scientists from Faculty of Nano- and Biomedical technologies, Faculty of Physics, Faculty of Biology, Education and research institute of nanostructures and biosystems, and Institute of Chemistry participate in the project.
The project also involves researchers from The Russian Academy of Sciences' Institute of Biochemistry and Physiology of Plants and Microorganisms and foreign university partners.
The project aims at creating modern means for target drug delivery and health diagnostics with remote control and release. It is unique and does not have any analogies in the world. Prof. Gorin says they’ve achieved some results in biosensors, creating remote-controlled material, element circulation and synthesis research. Project participants are young scientists – graduate students, professors and doctors of science. They now have a great opportunity to use their knowledge in real life and achieve scientific success. SSU alumni working abroad in related fields are also invited to work on the project.
“We have received several recommendation letters from hi-tech enterprises. Project results will be quickly implemented”, thinks Prof. Gorin. “We hope Gleb Sukhorukov, who has substantial experience in start up companies, will help us”.
