Meeting with the World Programming Championship winners was held in the main university building.
The meeting celebrated 10 years of SSU teams’ participation in the World Programming Championship. Dean of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technologies Dmitri Vasilievich Speranski opened the meeting. He recounted that Saratov State University has participated in the Championship since 1996. The University first asserted itself in 2002 when SSU team won the second prize and became the European champion. Next year was also very successful. That was the time the world leant about Saratov and Saratov State University.
Since then we have won three second prizes and one first prize, become World Champions and two-times European Champions. According to statistics, SSU is among top-10 universities of the world together with three Moscow universities. These victories are the result of the training system that is in work in Saratov State University. SSU Olympiad Training Center is constantly looking for young talented IT-students and trains them for competitions. Saratov University holds the 4th position in IT-specialists training in Russia.
After the Dean’s welcoming speech the champions appeared on the screen. The guest watched a film made by the team members during championships. Almost all winners came to the meeting. Undergraduate and graduate students of the Faculty of Computer Science and Information Technologies organized a short press conference. They asked questions about training; they also asked Michael Mirzojanov how many T-shirts with Programming Championship logo he has and how they met Jennifer Lopez in Beverly Hills.
The meeting was attended by the deputy head of Saratov Region government A.A. Sherbakov, Minister of Industry and Energy A.V. Nikonov and Chair of NGO “Young Guard” D.V. Fadeev. They congratulated Vitali Goldstein, Aleksei Klimov and Sergei Nazarov on winning the second prize this year.
