SSU and Saratov region Government signed cooperation agreement on September 1, 2012. The document was signed by Gov. V.V. Radaev and SSU Rector L.Yu. Kossovich.
The ceremony took place at the university main building. Among the participants were Chair of Saratov Region Duma M.V. Aleshina, Metropolitan of Saratov and Volsk Longin, Deputy Chair of Saratov Region Government A.V. Rossoshanski, Minister of Education M.A. Epifanova, Minister of Industry and Energy S.M. Lisovski, Minister of Sport, Tourism and Youth Policy N.B. Brilenok, Rector’s office representatives and heads of SSU departments.
Before the ceremony the honored guests took part in celebratory assembly on the occasion of the beginning of the new educational year and visited SSU history museum. Rector L.Yu. Kossovich and museum director G.N. Bous lead the tour around the museum. They gave an account of the Saratov State University history and its architect K.L. Mufke. The visitors saw rare photographs, congratulatory addresses, campus model and a room dedicated to V.I. Razumovski, first rector of Saratov Imperial University. The museum acquired a new exhibit item: the world champion in canoeing, Faculty of sociology student Natalia Lobova presented the cup of V World canoeing students championship. Natalia got the cup as the team member with the highest results. Gov. V.V. Radaev and regional ministers congratulated Natalia on her victory.
Rector L.Yu. Kossovich welcomed the honored guests. In his opinion the signing of cooperation agreement is a momentous event. Saratov State University has always been one of the most important educational centers in Russia. “Saratov Region government understands the special mission of the university, sees its problems and always tries to help”, says L.Yu. Kossovich.
The cooperation agreement had been discussed before-hand with heads of regional ministries. The document is not just a framework agreement but a plan of actions. The visitors watched a presentation of SSU and regional government cooperation areas. Among them are IT, innovations, environmental activity, education, culture and cultural heritage protection.
Rector spoke about projects going in collaboration with regional government. He also mentioned small enterprises and their economic efficiency as well as innovative joint research projects. In the last 2 years the university invested about 1 bln rubles in the development of science and industry.
Gov. V.V. Radaev congratulated everyone on the occasion of the beginning of the new educational year. He said that SSU is well-known in the country and region: “At the international symposium on nanotechnology I heard a lot of good about Saratov State University from world-leading scientists, Nobel prize winner Zhores Alferov among them”.
Gov. V.V. Radaev defined cooperation goals: “Effectively using our resources we should help the development of regional economy and improvement of life quality”. In his opinion the region has everything it requires to achieve top rating positions in the country. “We have superb science school and high potential. We should achieve it as soon as possible. You provide ideas and results, we provide support”, says the Governor.
Deputy head of Education and Research Institute of Nanostructures and Biosystems D.A. Gorin and the head of Nanostructures and microcapsule laboratory S.A. Portnov also spoke about high-tech equipment in the laboratories and staff training that further advance the development of the region and university.
Gov. V.V. Radaev summed it up by saying that we should constantly go forward.
