On May 9, a solemn event dedicated to Victory Day was held on Falcon Hill. Governor of Saratov Region Roman Busargin took part there. The memory of fallen countrypeople during the Great Patriotic War was honoured by the students and staff of SSU. The university delegation was headed by Rector Alexei Chumachenko.
Together with veterans and citizens, the participants laid flowers at the Eternal Flame, the monuments to the Soviet War Memorial and Grieving, the monument Cranes and the Memorial to Countrypeople Who Died in Local Wars.
From 1941 to 1945, 685 thousand residents of our region fought on all fronts, more than 300 thousand of them did not return from the battlefields. Thousands of Saratov residents were awarded with orders and medals for their courage and bravery shown in battles. 296 people were awarded with the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union for heroism and courage shown during the war, 32 became full holders of the Order of Glory. Thousands of residents of the region forged the Victory in the home front, helping the front.
To remind, on the eve of Victory Day, on May 6, Saratov State University and SSMU held a meeting at the Memorial to the SSU and SSMU Staff and Students Who Died in the Great Patriotic War.
